Green Smiley Monday

I'm going for it, yes the green smiley Monday. its kind of a pale green but green, nontheless.
Last Monday I journaled & said I was grateful for a job and a job that I love and then I proceeded to have the worst work week I've had in a long time, lol. So today I am grateful that I can laugh about the irony of stating how much I love my job & by Friday being just about to call it "quits." Between my own stuff - meltdowns over Ed, then staff behaving badly, budget cuts and the start up of all 12 classes, (in the summer only 3 are open), yikes! How soon is retirement?
I am also grateful to have taken some time off this week.
I am grateful for medicines that help. I can only speak for me but going off Zoloft at the end of June hasn't worked out all that well for me. The sobbing while driving home and feeling distracted and not sleeping all came back. I called my doctor today & began a low dosage of Zoloft again and I know meds are not right for some everyone but for me it has helped me manage and I only use them under the supervision of my doctor and I do not drink alcohol while I am taking an antidepressant.
And last but not least I am happy today because this powerful union of friends here at DS and FMO came to my rescue (please see my last journal) with wonderful ideas, suggestions, love and prayers. My heartfelt thanks to all of you.
Love ya!!!! :)

Linda, I understand what you say about the meds, it really is a personal thing. We are all different and you have to do what is right for you. I love reading reasons for being grateful and thankful, I have to take stock in my life and do more of that -- you have inspired me. Terry

If it weren\'t for my meds supervised by my Dr., I don\'t think I would function at all. Theres nothing wrong with it as long as taken as advised. Sorry for your loss, good luck with starting your meds again. Marcia

Since I\'ve had three severe clinical depressions in my life, and the second one lasted 2 1/2 years and I almost died from it, a generalized anxiety disorder ensued and I have been on ativan since 2003. I will most likely be on it for the rest of my life. My doctor asked me when I was protesting about it if I would opt out of my heart medicine if it was still needed (it is), and I said, Of course not! He said, this is simply another medical problem for you and you need the meds. I don\'t like it either, but I\'ve stopped fighting it. My body really rebels if I try to wean off (I\'m dependent....don\'t have to say addicted because I have not had to increase it....semantics!) Anyway, I\'m on it and so what. I never take more than my dosage and as long as I know I have that under control, it\'s okay. I know a ton of people who have been on their antidepressants for years and years......it\'s fine as long as you are okay with it.
Love,
Becky

That is great--to see even a slight green smiley Linda--better slight than nothing! I sometimes have that happen to me too--saying something is \"just going great! Terrific!--only to seemingly have the rug pulled out from under my feet --very soon after--
As far as meds go, at our age, our hormonal \"issues\" can also come into play and just wreak havoc on our moods. I\'m all for using prescribed meds if they\'re found effective--like you said, as directed and keeping away from alcohol as a precaution.

Oh Linda I can relate to the irony of the job thing. And I am grateful that clarity in your heart gave you the insight to work with your doctor. That\'s the hardest part -- just knowing what needs to be done. You always amaze me. This is hard stuff and you have found your way back to some really critical equilibrium.
Now, onward with sending love to Eddie... \'nuff of that stuff at work!!!

There is a reason we have the medications.. we NEED them... depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain.. there is a real reason for it...
It has been proven that when something happens in our life we get imbalanced and some of us need help getting the chemicals rebalanced.. and if it has happen before possibly those medicatioins will be needed long term or forever...

I went through a depressioin after my Mom died (I had gone into nurse mode not daughter mode and after she died I crashed as I\'d put all those feelings away while I cared for her)... You think I would have learned but I did the same thing when Jenn got sick... she needed care... not that Ididn\'t cry during her illness, I did, but my depression came back.. I have seen a counselor, it was the most expensive hour cry I\'ve had, ot that I cried ALL the time, it actually got so that I could get through a session on only 1 tissue not the box. I am still on meds, and as my doctor has said when I talked about stopping.. if it\'s not broken don\'t try to fix it... in other words, the meds are working.. STAY ON THEM...

Happy to know that you are finding what works for you my friend. So sorry about all the stresses at work and hope some of that has eased up a bit. Taking the time to do the inner work to even slow things down long enough to ponder is huge. It\'s always a work on progress, isn\'t it? Loving care to you and to your darling Ed and will you please just \"whip your co-workers back into shape?!\" lol If anyone can you can! :) XO Joanie

It is all so very personal - the path , the journey, the grief, the gratitude and how we get through it all is amazing. What works for some - does not work for others - so we must seek only that which works for us and not be concerned with how we are perceived for needing a little more help at one time or another. So be it! As individual as we are - so goes our life and our life experiences. Love you girl and so glad you are doing what needs to be done to take extra good care of yourself. {{{HUG}}} Suzzanne
