So the question has been raised... why would I be angry at a G-d who loves me and has blessed me so much? I guess where do I start?
Everyone knows of the verse (Matthew 7:5) that talks about hypocrites instating that a person who is more concerned about the spec in another's eye misses the plank in theor own.... in other words, a person who becomes so overly concerned about the small blemishes and sins of others often miss the large messes they are leaving in their own wake.
Forgiveness. Forgiveness is what allows us to seperate ourselves from our own sins. Forgiveness, this great gift given so freely and generously, is what allows us to feel the great love to forgive others around us... no matter the transgressors that have been done. And drives us to sin no more. But what happend when that flow stops?
It is easy to forgive when the transgression ends and there is time to heal. In that healing there can be forgiveness and forward motion. But what happens when that series of transgressions is never ending? What happens when the barrow rolls of waves never ends, and there is no room to get a breath let alone heal or forgive? What then?
I am a therapist by trade... but who does the Dr go to when they are sick? Only the Great Physician. But what happens when the Great Physician refuses to heal or even assist, but instaed perscribed more pain in return?
It is hard for me to talk details or specifics without crying huge tears and losing myself for hours. but I will try......
I never had a real family. That is laughable to say because I am few priviligded peple to have 2 parents that are still married after almost 40 years.... they started late.... But let me tell you, they only recently started living together and have never really liked each other.
When my dad met my mom, he had just recetly started driving over the road semi - accross the country and where ever the money took him. They saw each other only on weekends, and only for a few hours at a time because of my dad's lack of sleep and lack of time at home. My parents marriage was more of the arranged sort. Their parents both had a child they no longer wanted calling their house their residence, and so the marriage was agreed on.... dowery included. Sounds like my parents are from some rural, indignant country, but they are both white, born and bred in the USA .... only coming from a back country where these sorts of thoughts are still to this day acceptable.
My mother hated me. She never wanted me. She to this day will remind me of that. She had a miscarriage just before getting pregnant with me, and hated my father for tricking her to having sex, in her words. I also tore out her uterous when I was born, cauing her a great deal of pain, and an emergency hyserectamy. Let alone, I was a girl. The indignace... a girl. The worth of a woman is in the make children they can have. My older brother was fine, but then she lost the boy between us, gave birth to a ... a girl..... and then lost the ability to have any more children. All of this was my fault.
My mother was horridly depressed after my birth. She seldome held or touched me. I survived - she was not cuel, but as soon as I could walk, I was given responsibilities. I was a woman - and the oldest female in the family - so it was my responsibility to care for the household. And so I did. I waited on my brother, who would in turn beat and assult me; I cared for mt mother, who in turn would only remind me of my insignificance in the owrld; and I cared for household tasks, which I could never get right and would ensue more screaming and beating.
All of this time, my father would be away. The only working member of the family, he would be in the truck for 5-6 days a week. So when he was home, I would cling to him, beg for his love. Beg to go with him in the truck. Beg to take me away from the ongoing torchure. In return, my mother's family would call me a whore and a charlet, assuming that because I clung so hard to my father, we must have been romanticly involved. My mother would check my female parts after he would leave, because she knew that somehow I had managed to have sex with my father right under her nose. Nothing could have been closer to the truth - he barely had time to look at he, caring for his own parents, a farm he did not live at, and a house he did live at in the 12-48 hours a week he was home. But I always elected to work with him when he was home because even though the work was ahrder, and not for women as I was often reminded, it was work I did not get chasized for doing wrong, but instaed taught how to do correctly and even praised at times for completing, and I longed for that praise so much.
My only hope was to make it through school the best I could, stay away from home as much as possible, and run away to college. But yet, I was still obligated to do what was required of me at home, and only complicated my own situation by limiting the time I had avaialable to do these things. I would be reminded that G-d called us to love the place we were in and do it with the best of our ability, but who ever this G-d was... This G-d of my childhood - I wanted nothing to do with him because he obviousky hated me to never rescue me like so many of the women I heard of in stories. I would try to call CYS to get out, but that would only make it worse, so I instead sffered through it silently, castized by friends and family for my odd behaviors and extreme anger, and never accepted by my peers or my family.
I hoped in college that I would meet the man of my dreams, drop out, and move far away. The first man I met who promised that, left. Leaving me in a larger state of crazy than I had ever been. But in this time, I also learned of a new version of G-d. a loving father who longed for us. A version that had never been presented in the hell fire and brimstone churches and peiple of my past. I wanted to share thsi with the world. It liberated me. Freed me from my past. I became a missionary. I became a persurer or religious texts. I learned more about my own religion, why I believed it, and what other religions are about in those 5 years than most do in their whole lives. I devoted myself to learning, knowing taht only knowledge could help me now. G-d lead me to what classes to take, where I was to go, and he put a new man in my life, one that seemed to keep popping up and coming back. But the inevitable was to happen.
I am a planner - I plan everything. Control in planning and the comfort in those plans being sucessful were one of the few things that I did have control in for my life. What I had not planned for in going to college was graduating. after 5 years I was going to graduate. So I went on a quest. A quest to commune with G-d and find a direction for what I knew I had to go back to. But now it was worse...
expectations higher. Compairions deeper. Never could I say I was more afraid, but at laest I would have a man with me who did love me and wanted to support me. But what support did he end up being? He hated our children when they were young, so with me working to pay off his bills, my loans, and for the farm my children practically raised by the mother who hated me so, and took this anger out on my very young children.
and it continued with the man who lived over me at the farm - my uncle - my father's brother - reminding me of my insignificance as a woman, though relying on my money to live. His children coming to my house to terrorize my family. Shooting at me and my children. I was to stay none the less. But why?
I am skipping so much, but right when my happily ever after was in my grasp. I has a career, a home no longer ruled over by another, a husband who wanted to be more involved in the family, my father had retired and wanted to spend time with his grandkids, and my 2 amazing blessings of children showed thier great ability to raise above it all..... then I had to move. Leave the only place I had called home to start again in this dreadful place.
I am starting from the bottom again. Never see my family. Never have time to get my paperwork done. Don't get paid for my stress and pain. Fight with schools - for my children and others. And deal with again being reminded how insignificant I am and unwanted I am.... and we are so behind in bills that I cannot afford our life here and threaten to loose everything at any moment because we make far less and expenses are far higher.
Where is the love from this G-d? Where are the blessings for his people? Where is the justice?
I stopped asking for forgiveness and decided to stop feeling guilty because I had too much guilt in shame in my life already, and the only thing I got from asking for forgivesness and trying to show love to those who persected me as more persecution.
I am no Paul. When I am stoned and chased out, left for dead, I do not have the support of friends to keep going. Infact - I have no friends. I have no one that loves me. The burdens placed on my children and I are too great.
I have lost the ability to try to forgive others and love them regardless because my pain is too great that has been caused by them and they only continue to cause more. I cannot cut all of these people from my life - though I have tried to limit their influences on myself and my family.
Even in this move, though... G-d took away the reason for moving - the only blessing in moving... the ability to pay for our house and have free health care ... because shorly after moving my husband lost his job we moved for.
How can I love someone who does not love me back? How can I not be angry with G-d for this?
I am the most knowledgeable religious person I know, so the few people who have tried to help me cannot answer my simple questions because they do not understand their own religion. Infact, I have regrettably and unfortunately caused people to lose their religion in my few questions.
So here they are.... When I forgive those that hurt me so deeply, and ask for G-d to help, why does the help only seem to include these parties hurting me more? Why did G-d call me to work with others, and then leave my family to suffer so much from it? Why did I pray for my husbands understandinga and his soul's securrance and when he tells me he finds G-d, the only thing he truly finds is more love of himself and not of others? When will the pain end?

I have 3 kids. 24. 17. 15. My 17 yr old has become super defiant. He and his 15 yr old sister have on their own decision stopped going to their dads because he and his household is so toxic. My 15 yr old and myself feel like we have to tip toe around my son who is 17. And physically towers over us and out weighs us. He has become emotionally abusive and on the verge of becoming physically...
The evil beast is putting many lies in your head and you are blaming a loving , kind ,compassionate Savior ,Jesus/God.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I also know of the feelings of being punished, forgotten and unworthy of God's love or forgiveness.
As you said though, we BOTH did finally find that more loving, compassionate God. I believe that He does work in His own ways, in His own time (For me this is truly a BIG challenge since He does know I often have the patience of a flea. He knows I want everything yesterday....so makes me wait til tomorrow....or days after )
In my life, I try very hard to forgive and understand why people are as they are. My parents did the best that they could. I know they did love us, The fact is...they were both brought up feeling that all was their fault....their parents unhappy marriages would begin with their very existences. (Yes, I did the math. Mom and Dad as well as Dad's parents would run off to elope out of state while both were 2 months pregnant. Back then, that is how things were done.)
From what I uncovered, neither of them actually ever felt loved or wanted. This is why they struggled so.... You cannot give what you never had.... or learned how to give.
For me, I often did not understand the messages God was trying to give me until MUCH later. This is he part that sucks. But eventually the pieces of my puzzle would fall into place. I believe they will for you as well.
remember God does love you...and your kids know you love them (especially if they are aware of how your family life as a child/ adolescent was ) You are trying like h**ll to save them from the same feelings and fate you were forced to go through.
Now you do also have others here for you as well....who do care and want to help and share your burdens and help you celebrate your joys and successes. You are not all alone anymore
I have had bad experiences all my life. I had rheumatic fever as a young child and was sickly till I became a teenager. My family was dirt poor because my dad was disabled. My dad was very abusive to my mom and us 8 kids. My mom was a good Christian lady and could not see the bad in anyone, only good.
When I was 16, my 19 year old brother was run over and killed by a drunk driver.
After I graduated, I rebelled and became a bit promiscuous. I married a soldier and moved out of state. They say you marry someone like your dad; I did. I had two sons by this selfish, abusive husband, and I felt helpless and hopeless. We were together for 16 years, and then he divorced me and got custody of the boys. I never knew the exact court date; that was like a death.
Backing up, at age 28, I was raped by a teen age neighbor boy who later hung himself in jail after supposedly killing a man.
Later, I was a victim of incest by a cousin on my dad's side. Not the first incident; when I was a child there was another cousin who took his liberties before then. And a brother.
My second husband had been married 5 times before me, and I found out he was asexual. However, we both came to God early in the marriage, and I lived with him for 18 years. He was a good man in many ways, and we adopted a little boy, but this husband had health issues that he kept hidden from me. He had a massive heart attack in 2010.
A year later I was remarrried to a preacher (a widower) and relocated over 2500 miles. I found out that he had inherited major debt from his late wife. His kids hated me and gave me grief. His family didn't think I was good enough for him. He was a member of a very small church, and the pastor and the pastor's wife were evil. There were some situations we were dealing with, and the pastor came into my home one day and told me he was praying for God to kill me.
His house went into foreclosure, so we moved and rented a nice home from the pastor I have presently. I was helping him (my husband) get out of debt, and we were looking at our retirement years when he found out he had cancer. We lost the battle in Dec. 2016. The images are hard to shake from my mind.
During this time, his oldest brother had called me and threatened me. Told me I didn't do anything right, that I was crazy, blamed me for everything.
I had two siblings who overdosed - one on Christmas Day 2013. I could go into a lot more, but this gives you an idea of my past life. Trauma and drama - take your pick.
BUT GOD.....I will admit that I was angry with God and a lot of people for several months. I found myself totally alone except for my oldest son who lives here in town (there's a story behind him also; and his brother has been in prison for 15 years - getting out next year).
After being widowed, I was attracted to a man who went to my church, but he also flew the coop. I have had people try to shame me for just wanting to talk to or about a man. Anyway, they were right about this particular man being not who I thought he was. After that, I dealt with some scammers on Instagram. That was a scary deal and taught me to be careful.
BUT GOD...although I don't understand why He took two husbands from me, or why He didn't heal the cancer, I am trying to be strong and trust that He never makes a mistake.
I can't say what has happened to change me recently, other than time transpiring and my getting closer to God. I moved into a duplex, and that has kept me busy, as well as all the other 1001 things a widow must do.
I know that the devil came by and offered me a "deal" if i would compromise my beliefs, and the temptation was great at times. Let me say that I have an awesome church and an awesome pastor who is also my landlord. It has been a daily process, sometimes one minute at a time, an hour at a time, a day at a time...
I weighed things out, and I can't throw in the towel now. We are in the last of the last days. I pray that God will send me one more husband, but I won't settle for less than a man who loves God first and foremost. I suppose the little strength I do have comes from the relationship I have with the Lord and going to church faithfully. My kids want me to move back to be closer to them, but I have not decided. It would be very difficult, if not impossible, to duplicate the church I am a part of. So for now I leave it in God's hands.
I hope this has helped, and I sincerely hope you are able to change your circumstances. Sometimes He delivers us from our troubles, and other times He helps us go through them.
It's so hard to know sometimes why God intervenes when he does, and at other times allows people to do bad (or 'bad' to happen) to us. So we blame God be cause we do not understand and afterall He is all powerful. This was, if I recall correctly, Job's question. And, sometimes I still wonder. But that's because sometimes I still think that since God is all powerful and CAN control everything that happens, that then HE must BE in complete control of the world and that everything that happens must be His (ordained, determined, prescribed) will. This is widely believed, but is not actually true. You will hear some people try to solve this dilemma by talking about God's perfect will and then His permissive will - but those arguments are misleading BECAUSE they imply that God IN ANY WAY wills bad - HE DOESN'T WILL IT, and HE DOESN'T "WILL TO ALLOW IT" EITHER. God is as angered and hurt by the bad that we do to ourselves, to others, and to each other as we are - in fact more so. We live in a fallen world and God is not getting His way. So then, If God doesn't will everything that happens What does HE will? God's original will (the way of life and unbroken communion He wanted in the Garden of Eden, before Adam and Eve rebelled) is still what He wants. But humans rebelled then and are still rebelling today. Most non-Christians live completely for the whims of their flesh. And, as Christians we still struggle today with our flesh that we must crucify daily in order to truly walk according to the Spirit. This is the explanation for bad and wrong - not God.
Anyone who hurts us (or others) is acting outside the will of God.
So... great...it's not God's fault... blame the world.....
But why doesn't God intervene???? Right? Because sometimes He does....
Only two things come to mind when I think about this:
Firstly, I think of Jesus' discussion on persistence in prayer. Do not give up, perhaps God is working on hearts and you will see changes for the better soon.
Secondly, I think of the list of the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians. We often think of this as a to do list for Christians, and that may not be entirely wrong, but these are actually (also) attributes of God. Along with God's more enormous than we can fathom love, and all the other attributes listed in between, He must also have 'more enormous than we can fathom' self-control, and He is exercising it. Why is God exercising His self control with other people who hurt me and others? People are fond of saying we'll understand all this in heaven. I'm not sure if we will or not - with human mental abilities being so incredibly less than Almighty God's - maybe we'll understand, or maybe in heaven we;ll just forget all our earthly troubles and remember the good times, and the ways we've seen God work.
But I do know that the God Who Sees sees you and your trouble. He does love you (John 3:16 - you are not an exception to this). And The Living God will arise to the defense of us (many Psalms).
Now, on a non-religion, non-God oriented side note. You mentioned that you are a therapist and are expected to heal yourself. I was very surprised by this as I have spoken to mental health counselors who themselves received counseling, and of course a surgeon would not be expected to knock themselves out and do their own surgery.. If you ever feel that a good Christian counselor would be able to offer objective insight and local in -person support you might want to reconsider. I am not a counselor myself so I am only trying to say that I wouldn't automatically dismiss talking things over with a therapist just because you are one, but also I know that therapy does not always 'solve' everything.
I hope any of this helps. Know that God cares and so do His people.
Hugs and many prayers.
Beryl.
Shewearsblack:If HE brought us to it HE will bring us through it .I can relate to you . I came from a very dysfunctional family .They were never told they were loved and never did to me .I wanted to be away from them . I was an object to them .I got no support from them but jealousy . I had a cousin,Nellie who was born to my mother's sister by a rapist .My Mom wanted me to be her saving grace .That aunt was put in a mental institution after she was raped . They wanted me to be like Nellie's sister BUT we were opposites . She,Nellie was street wise and I the opposite . To make a long story short I ignited under Nellie's watch . By the grace of JESUS I was only burned below my arms and a little on my stomach .
I desperately wanted to be loved and as a result slept around and became pregnant .
My paternal aunt ,uncle and DAD ALL had the same disease .Now I have it and so does my cousin .My other maternal aunt has MS and recently broke her hip. There are more negativities in my life but I choose not to focus on them & praise the King of Kings ,JESUS . My past negativities are in the past and that is where I choose to leave them in the past .
Beryl ,I agree with you .
I believe our thinking is limited and frail and if we use our intellect to try to comprehend Jesus we will be perplexed . I use my heart . My life & heart belongs to JESUS .
