Matthew 6:33 |
God doesn’t want you grabbing the newspaper first thing in the morning and reading all the bad news in the world. He knows that if you do that, your heart will be full of cares, anxieties and even fears. When you are reading the newspapers, magazines, medical journals, economic reports, watching movies or surfing the Internet all the time, then you are getting your “nourishment” from these sources instead of God’s Word. Now, I am not against these things. But if you constantly feed only on earthly things which cannot satisfy, you will fill your heart and mind with cares and worries. Jesus doesn’t want you to end up worrying about your life—what you will eat, drink or wear—as these are the things that the Gentiles (people of the world) seek. He says that your heavenly Father knows very well that you need these things (see Matthew 6:31–32). That is why He promises you that if you would seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, all these things that the world seeks after will be added to you. It will not just be given but added, which means greater in quantity and quality! If you are faced with lack, don’t pursue material goods. Pursue God your provider. If you are sick, don’t pursue the “cure.” Pursue God your healer. My friend, don’t grab the newspaper or call your friend first thing in the morning to talk about the latest bad news. Instead, grab your Bible and read all the good news God has for you for the day. And as you seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, all the things that the world is running after will be added to you! |

I have 3 kids. 24. 17. 15. My 17 yr old has become super defiant. He and his 15 yr old sister have on their own decision stopped going to their dads because he and his household is so toxic. My 15 yr old and myself feel like we have to tip toe around my son who is 17. And physically towers over us and out weighs us. He has become emotionally abusive and on the verge of becoming physically...
But, the necessities listed: what to eat, what to drink, what to wear - those are what is being promised. The principle of pursuing God first is spot on though.
"Jesus doesn’t want you to end up worrying about your life—what you will eat, drink or wear—as these are the things that the Gentiles (people of the world) seek. He says that your heavenly Father knows very well that you need these things (see Matthew 6:31–32)."
I think the writer makes it pretty clear that what will be added to you is exactly what you pointed out: what you eat, drink, or wear. I think paragraph 3 is Matthew 6:31-32 quoted from the NKJV. The KJV words it "Therefore take no thought saying, What shall we eat? What shall we drink,? or Wherewithal shall we be clothed,? (32) For these are the things the Gentiles seek...." So I think this is what is being referred to at that bottom of the page when the writer said God will add to you all the things that world seeks, since the word "Gentiles" in verse 32 is explained in parenthesis as meaning the people of the world. I agree with you that world/Gentiles also seeks the things you mentioned, but I don't believe that is what was being talked about in THIS Bible passage that the world/Gentiles are seeking after in verse 31 and 32, or that the writer was intending to say that God will give us the things you mentioned, I believe he was only referring to what was said in the passage he quoted from in paragraph 3.
Thanks for posting this good reminder to trust God.
