I’m new here and I’ve been looking for support groups and this is the first one I’ve come across..
my husband is a PC in England, we’ve got a 18month old daughter and with his horrible shifts I feel like a single parent.
I feel so lonely and i feel like he doesn’t care. I try to talk to him and he has a ‘get on with it’ attitude.
i was diagnosed with PND (post natal depression) and I thought it was over it but now I’m not sure if how I’m feeling is that again or how I will feel forever :(
i hate going to bed alone, having to run our house alone, spending my evenings alone :(
i know now he works hard but I work 4days a week as well....
i just need a coping strategy or someone to talk too...
i just want to cry all the time and this isn’t who I am
My significant other is also the type with a "get on with it" attitude. Every petty issue i have in my day seems so little in comparison to what he sees daily. After 2 years i have learned to kind of cope with being alone, however i dont have children. I cant imagine the stress of that adding onto everhthing. I find things that comfort me. I try and find the stength in being alone. I am also so busy with university and work i dont have a lot of time to sink into the lonelyness, but when i do i sink into it hard. Its totally Understadble and great you are looking for support. Im in the same boat right now needing support from people who truely get the struggles.
I am sorry to hear that you are going through this. I have two children one is a year old and have had similar experiences. For me, I have my dogs who sleep with me and watch tv with me at night when I can’t sleep. If it weren’t for them I would fee much lonelier. Keep your head up and remember to do things for your self. Even if it’s 15 minutes a day
Thank you for sharing your story with the group. I am new here as well. #1 I would encourage you to speak with your doctor if you have not already. Depression is hard. I too suffered from this after having my little one. I believe this is not brought to light enough. #2 do you have any local mom friends or family for support? This has helped me in the past. Or tried connecting with any other wife in his department? Because chances are there is one who has or knows of great local resources to help.
The nigh shift is hard, but not forever. You are taking all the right steps and are a strong mom/wife.
Police wife for 9 years
We've now got two kids, a toddler and a baby.
It's a struggle, daily, and I don't think my husband understands.
Got myself all hung up on Easter now, alone with the kids or as a third wheel with family, neither option seems appealing.
I think I've been waiting for it to get easier, at what point do you accept defeat and throw in the towel!
I very much understand how you feel. I have been a LEOW for almost 13 years with 2 kids and a crazy busy weekday career of my own. Even after all of these years, my family and friends do not always empathize with the struggle, especially around holidays and weekends. What I have decided to do to help is find time for me. I have decided I have one of two choices - whine and be angry or achieve the life I want as he has no control over my happiness, i do. Besides, if he would change his career so we could have more traditional family time, it might change him and I fell in love with a man that wants to try to change things for others for the better. It is easy to see the struggle, my husband can share my many rants, but I am ready to prove to myself and for myself that I can find happiness in this lifestyle. So if anyone has advice or thoughts on how you accomplish this, please post. It is not his job to make me happy, that is mine to do.
(UK) My boyfriend of 3 years is just starting out as a Police officer and I am seriously doubting I will be able to cope with it. He is taking a large pay cut and has chosen to be based well over an hour away- how do you bring children into that equation without being stay at home mum/almost single parent!? Just finding all the factors hard to swallow and whoever I speak too that has been in this position doesn't speak well of it...
