Hi there - my husband starts as a PC next week... he's been a PCSO for 2 years so I'm used to unsociable hours and I'm realistic that it will be a bit worse (especially with the Olympics coming up) but I've spoken to some other PC wives and they've told me how hard it is to keep a relationship goping and being married to a PC is like being a singla parent - - - - is it just scare mongering or will I really never see him? Oh yeah - we're in London too :o) xxx

Sitoraxi - please don't worry. My other half was a PCSO for 2 and a half years and then became a PC last summer. The rota for the summer for my fiancé is horrendous not going to lie - 7 days on, 1 off for 5 weeks running. However normally he works two earlier, two lates then two nights with four days off in between. Means realistically only 4 evenings every ten days that I'm on my own (ideal to meet up with friends, family etc). I grew up with my dad being a PC all my life. Of course, there were things that he missed but the vast majority of big occasions he was there for. If anything my other half struggles more than I do!! Good luck to your husband for next week - the first 2 years are tough but options open up after his probation to do more regular hours/shifts and theres plenty of things that he can go into if response team isn't for him xx

Thanks Pennr! Thats really reassuring :o) To be honest, I'm not overly concerned because the way I see it we cant do anything about it - we just have to see what happens and get on with it. Plus I stop working soon so we will have more family time - while I've been working and we've been sharing childcare etc we tend to have 1full day togther as a family plus 2 evenings per week... so it might not be any different or even better now that I'm a stay at home mom. Ha ha - although he will need to do overtime to make up my salary! There is no winning! :o)

Hi, I am due to have an arranged marriage with a PC this winter, although I am still getting to know him and we text and call a lot, I know it's different when you're actually married to a police officer as opposed to just getting to know one.
I really want to be supportive from the beginning and would like to know what to expect once I am married so that I can prepare myself.

can you help? I realised there are a lot of american wives on here and not sure how much their experience differs to ours. Would be grateful if abyone in the UK could help?

Anyone on here with partners in the UK police?

Police wife for 9 years
We've now got two kids, a toddler and a baby.
It's a struggle, daily, and I don't think my husband understands.
Got myself all hung up on Easter now, alone with the kids or as a third wheel with family, neither option seems appealing.
I think I've been waiting for it to get easier, at what point do you accept defeat and throw in the towel!
