Got up early had plans for the day to visit a local Christmas event. But the day started off bad when my AH pee'd the couch AGAIN! I didnt have much to say, just did what I had to do with a few mumbles under my breath. He apologized with tears in his eyes. I didn't say anything. He said he had a dream ( he has had this "vision" b4) of a being and that that being told him to go see a priest. He left (took my car, so that shot my plans) Came back several hours later. Said he went to 3 churches talked to a priest, and 2 ministers. One minister was helpful. listened to him, gave him a number to call him. The minister wants to come to our home now. So ok, I try to salvage the rest of the day ask him to take the dog out b4 we leave. The dog gets away from him. runs down the road. And fort he next 2 hours he looks for the dog. Dog came home while he was out looking for said dog. I lost it. I really wanted to go to the event and he always ruins everything. Why did he have to pick this day to go find God?? I yell and finally just lay down. He goes to get Chinese, comes home my mirror is hanging off MY car the whole side of the car smashed!!!! He tries to tell me he hit a deer. I finally get the truth out of him, He swerved off the road and hit a pole. Now I have a smashed car!! Of course he was drinking. He falls onto the floor in a heap, crying asking God for salvation. Me for forgiveness. The crying on the floor, asking for Gods help, wishing he would die went on for a few hours. Now he is passed out on the couch again. Pretty sure I will be cleaning the couch again in the morning. When will the nightmare end???
:0( Oh my goodness. "What a day" is definitely appropriate. My heart goes out to you.
I wish I could tell you a time when the nightmare would end. It likely won't. =( We hold onto hope for a really long time. We wish recovery for them, we threaten, we cry. At the end of the day though, we can't change them. We can't want it for them more than they want it for themselves.
The only thing you can focus on is you. You don't have to leave, you can stay, just set boundaries for you - to help you keep your sanity.
Boundaries would include having him clean up his own mess on the couch. If you already had plans, following through on your plans instead of letting his poor choices ruin your day. Finding activities that you enjoy and doing them. There's no reason his choices need to consume you.
I know it's easier said than done - with practice, it does get easier.
