We are coming up on 26 years, 16 of them in an alcoholic haze for him. He "got sober" 3 years ago but that is a load of crap....yeah, if sober is a pint of vodka in the linen closet that you go back and forth upstairs drinking while ur 12 year old son is watching baseball, using mouthwash so I won't be able to tell (HA! both my parents were alcoholics, I can tell if someone has had ONE drink much less many) I really hate my husband, I hate him...but I have no options. We r paycheck to paycheck, we could never afford 2 homes. I have no family left and there was a time when I thought of shipping him back to his parents so he would be away from us and could live rent free but now they've lost thier house and have no room for him. So I'm just trapped, trapped....and I'm going to die, the broke, angry wife of an alcoholic. No point here I guess except maybe for anyone who is in the beginning stages of a relationship with an alcoholic...get out, get out if u see this kind of behavior...they do not get better ever, AA is a joke (if any other "program" had such a fail rate it would be drummed out of society...10% AT BEST!) AA is a cult, a cult that doesn't work. Alcoholics are stunted narcissists with NO ability to cover. They will never get well, they will never get better, they will suck you dry and ruin your life. RUN.
Trapped is a terrible feeling . I gave up so much for my husband and all he want to do
Is drink an pop his pain pills. I feeel bad about being bitter toward him but I do
They take so much away from us.
Many prayers and hugs. For you
My heart goes out to you, to all of us. We've all had moments of feeling stuck. Many of us feel stuck currently. I'm working through a divorce right now and still feel stuck. There's always something they can hold over our heads. Something that doesn't quite pan out the way we need it to. I've been trying to view these setbacks as opportunities to find myself again, to find my strength again, to learn all the lessons I can so I make sure to not repeat them in a future relationship (if I would ever venture into one again).
The best advice I can give you is to think positive. Not for him, for you. Tell yourself you can get out, you will find a way and repeat it over and over and over. You may not believe it when you say it, but your thoughts definitely influence your outcome. I guess that's where the "fake it til you make it" slogan comes in.

You will get there - have faith!
