This is possibly the wrong place for me as I am on the other side of the fence as it were. I started reading posts here after recommending to a few people on another forum that they should check out this one. I have noticed that many here struggle to understand why the alcoholic in their life behaves as he does and this leads to all sorts of difficulties such as feeling guilty, loss of hope etc.
For an alcoholic, one of the greatest obstacles to recovery is ignorance about the condition. If someone does not understand the problem, they are likely to apply the wrong solution and fail as a result. It may also help the wives of alcoholics if they have a clear understanding of what they are dealing with. I have therefore dropped by on a brief visit to recommend an online video by a recovered alcoholic called Joe McQuany (R.I.P.) that explains alcoholism very well and goes on to suggest a solution that works.
The video is freely available online so take a look and you may learn something that would be useful in dealing with your own situation. You are of course free to agree or disagree with everything that the guy says but hopefully some people will find the information useful.
