I cannot believe this is my life. From the outside, our life is such a pretty picture. I bet people think I have it all. However, I regularly think and say out loud to myself, I hate my life. The uncertainty, chaos and dysfunction that surrounds our lives is destroying me.
My AH and I have two young children, a 3 yo and a 2 month old. I'm terrified that they will be effected by his actions as an alcoholic, but equally scared of how they will be effected if we split up. I am also uncertain if my husband will harm himself if I leave.
As all of you, I don't actually want to leave, I just want the man I love back and to never see his alter ego again. I want to leave his disease, not the man.
My question is...does anyone have any experience with the different prescription drugs that supposedly decrease the cravings for alcohol? Or the shot that is given that causes the alcoholic to become sick if they drink?
I know my husband has to want to recover and be sober, I am not fooling myself anymore. I can't force anything on him...my many ultimatums and rules over the years have always failed. However, I am interested in sharing any possible success stories with these types of drugs with him (if there are any...)
Antabuse is a pill that makes them sick if they drink. Mine took it, tested it with booze, was very sick, and then proceeded to swap them out for vitamin B-12 so he could continue to drink. Didn't take long for me to catch on,
The longer you stay the harder it is to leave. Your kids are young and resilient. Life with an AH is stressful and affects kids in ways you can't imagine. Provide them with a happy home. And the "I'll hurt myself if you leave" ploy is just that, a ploy to keep you in their grasp and stay in the relationship out of guilt. They rarely ever follow through. Always put your children first, you are all they have.
I feel your pain I am a mother of twins and since day one of their birth I was separated for years later we're back together and I thought things were going to be different and they're not he has a lot of childhood issues it's to the point now where I rather be without him I am so emotionally detached that I hate to say it but sometimes I hate him that I wish he was no longer on this Earth to make my life miserable I want to meet him I want him to stop drinking he is not willing to get help yet she has every excuse in the book things will never change my husband is 50 years old and he's been drinking since he was 12
