Wives of Alcoholics Community Group
A forum of healing and help for wives of alcoholics.
I've been in a relationship with an alcoholic for about 13 years now. (We had a marrragie ceremony, but no license). We've broken up twice due to his drinking and all the behaviors that go with it! The last time we got back together I promised him I wouldn't ask him to leave anymore and I fell for his promises of not ever putting me through all the negative junk from his drinking again. I was fooled! He said what he thought I wanted to hear and I took him back into my home and into my life. Now, I feel drained every single day. I feel unwanted by him because I'm 2nd to alchohol. He's lost job after job after job, but he still wants me to believe in him. I've asked him many times to get help, but he is very honest when he tells me he likes to drink and he doesn't want to get help. But, he makes me feel awful when I tell him we need to end our relationship. He will be arrested sometime soon for a warrant due to missing a court date regarding child support issues. He missed the court date because he drank all night the night before and then he slept through the appointment time. So, he received a notice that there is a warrant for his arrest. I have 3 granddaughters and he promised me he wouldn't drink when they are at our house. Within the same week he made that promse, he broke it and it and that was 2 years ago, he continues to drink when they are here. He reminds me of a teenager the way he stays up all night, playing his music loud and drinking and then he can't face responsibilities the next day. He'll have his hang-over day, then right back to drinking the next day.. it's a pattern. I know I need to ask him to leave for the 3rd time in our "marriage" but I keep telling myself it would be another failed relationship. I was married 24 years prior to meeting this man and that marriage ended in a divorce.
