Hadn't been on here for over a month. Husband moved back in , saying he needed and was ready to get help.
He got to a 30 day sobriety two days ago. He was going to school, volunteering to gain experience. Today he even thanked me
about a "mature" conversation we had. I thought," things are looking up." We have been attending therapy, though it has been a challenge.
I walked in from Yoga this evening and I felt the biggest punch in the gut. Though I didn't see anything, every sense in my body was telling me something was wrong. I let it ride for about 30minutes. A stumble, quiet demeanor, dropping things, that was all it took. a kiddie cup with about 8oz of straight tequila. All in front of me, as though nothing was happening. The lying that comes with this is beyond upsetting. Beyond words. I would have left it at it wasn't a good day.
As I type, I realize this was a good day for me... I stood my ground, set my boundaries and didn't argue with a drunk. I let him know he needed a different plan. I am trusting in God that a plan will unfold for me. My therapy will continue, but for now here I am.
That's such a disappointing feeling in a punch to the gut for sure very awful I have been where you are and it is no fun. The lying hiding sneaking around false promises empty promises constantly hurting everybody around them. I really don't think alcoholics realize how much pain they cause for everybody else and their life. They're so drunk they don't even realize how bad people feel when they do things like lie and break promises.
That is awesome that you are sticking to your boundaries and letting him know that it's not okay. If he's not actively seeking help through Alcoholics Anonymous or seeking it out patient rehab or even Inpatient Rehab the chances are he will not succeed. It's such a hard addiction to kick and without support and professional help majority of people can't do it. Check my husband four times before realizing that he needed professional help. There are outpatient programs which are nice because they can still work and function in their life they don't have to do in patient takeaway you know 30 to 60 90 days out of their life. I think my husband's outpatient program was 9 months long. Stay strong
Todays understanding for me is that he doesn't realize the damage he does. My 9 year old knows that he drank last night and she's wondering why? I had to tell her that I don't know why. Only he knows. So she asked him. I don't know his response. Why should my 9 yr. old have to endure this? She shouldn't. Today he's angry , probably from shame, I really don't care. His apology in a text seemed so easy as though it slid off his shoulder. Me I am trying to shove the anger off, but it sticks and resentment is sticky. The therapists are on vacation. Thank you for your thoughts.
