After 4 months of sobriety my AH fell off the wagon. Now he's back, and he thinks I don't know because he' s gone from smelly beer and all the cans to vodka in his iced tea. He gets very defensive if I doubt him so I try not to taste his tea in front of him. I already know the booze is in it. He walks and talks totally differently after a little booze. He says if his mother and I are going to question his sobriety every day then he might as well start drinking again. It's almost like a threat so I feel stuck. Any suggestions.
I would say something like, "You're not fooling me, you're only fooling yourself. I care about you and hope you'll decide to get help."
Sounds like good advice. It's really just an excuse to drink. Blame it on someone else instead of themselves. That's typical. Alcoholics aren't good at taking responsibility for their own actions/choices. I have found it just makes things worse when you confront them about their drinking.
He just thinks that his stinking vodka doesn't smell-what a crock of you know what!!!! Thats the oldest lie in the world! Its his story let him believe it if he wants to-but he's not fooling you-and don't believe a word of it!
Then walk away and do something for yourself.
