I was reading an article yesterday in a magazine titled "Alcoholism: what Pastors can do" and thought he hit the nail on the head when he said this about families that come from homes where there is substance/alcohol abuse......
he said..."Care must be taken with these families because often they are similar to battlefield casualties, the shell-shocked walking wounded."
I thought to myself....that is exactly how I feel so often! And I can tell by what you all share in this group that you all feel the same way.
Even though I don't know any of you I still want you to know that I have been praying for you all. It always helps me when I know that someone is praying for me especially when I'm struggling which is often.
YES!!! I feel the same way, probably most of the time so it almost feels normal.
Just before logging in here I was thinking along these very same lines.
My husband complains I am always yelling at him, not entirely true, but yes I do do that codependency thing when I've reached a breaking point. ( right now I am recommitted to living a more peaceful life)
But in what I consider a " normal" conversation , with AH I realize he is always yelling or angry about the stupidest things. I'm hoping to train myself to not engage. I'm doing better. But I need that ball of anxiety that lives in my stomach to leave. One step at a time.
Most importantly THANK YOU for the prayers. I spend time each morning in meditation and prayer and all of us who struggle with this are always in my heart.
Yes! It IS ptsd. I am widowed from my ah, but when I found myself near a very intoxicated man a few months back I found myself shaking/trembling uncontrollably at first, then I asked the Lord to help my to see him through HIS eyes...his invisible wounds, the prison that alcohol has put him in. It helped me. There are many things that trigger ptsd episodes in me and it's been about 3 and a half years since being with my ah. I'm slowly healing in several areas.....right now, I can't see that I can ever fully recover. I sincerely love the authentic him, minus alcohol. He's not in bondage now. He's free....and he is in heaven.
