My husband finally hit his bottom and decided to get help. He went to rehab and did the 30 day program. It all happened so fast, it was hard to believe it was finally happening! As I'm sure you all can relate to we must have had the talk a million times about how he needed help and there was nothing wrong with that and that a program would be the best way to be successful in sobriety as he had tried on his own many many times. I was terrified after leaving the rehab facility that he would just leave a day or two later after feeling better, but I couldn't believe his commitment to it. I was so incredibly happy to see it and knew that he really wanted to learn about his problem and to beat it.
He's been home for 2 weeks now and just started a new job that takes him away for a week at a time with limited communication. I want to be supportive and to be there for him but I find myself worrying a lot about the what if's. What if he falls off the wagon? What if I push to hard or not enough? I read the books about how to get him sober, but I feel poorly equipped with the what to do after they get sober part. Has anyone been through this chapter that can offer any valuable advice? My husband said that I should go to an Al-Anon meeting to help me, but I find myself scared to go. i'll definitely go because I know I need to for both my sake and for both of us, but if anyone has any advice for this stage I'm open ears.
..I think you need to relax ,Certain things in this life we cant control and one of them is if our Ah drinks or not. So far my ah has not started to drink again, since jan..but he is very depressed. He s being treated but there is hope he will eventually get better.Worry is wasted energy,it takes its toll on you.One day at a time is all that we have .I try to tell myself if I start to worry Is this the way I want to spend my last day on this earth? Because it very well could be.
I agree with NovScorp. Relax and enjoy. Let him know that you are proud and happy. Pushing on him isn't going to help him or your relationship.
