Oh my gosh...that sounds just like mine. I know alcoholism is a disease but when do we realize that WE matter? Today is my 6 month wedding anniversary and i am sitting her contemplating divorce. How in the world did i get here??? I dont understand and want to desperately understand.
After living with this for 20 years, I have a hard time seeing Alcoholism as a disease. I believe that we can have a predisposition and that it can be heriditary to have an addictive personality. But what it all boils down to is that they are self-centered, have no coping skills, use this as an excuse to be a jerk and act as they please. And they are choosing to continue down this distructive path. IT IS THEIR CHOICE!!!
They don't want to grow up and have to face problems like the rest of us do. They don't want to take care of themselves and their responsibilities.
I'm sure a lot of us had rough lives before we married our AH, but we have made it this far without using substances to run away and hide from the world.
I feel like we as a society are to easy on people who want to destroy their and other peoples' lives around them, by choosing to abuse something. Then they neglect, abuse and run away from anything good in their lives.
So, you dig deep, find your inner strength and worth, stand up and say no more crap. You either nock it off and grown up, or you can go somewhere else and treat someone else poorly. You realize that you are worth more, you don't deserve to live this way and take this crap. Let him know that you aren't going to baby him and hold his hand anymore. He can catch up to or go away.
