Today has started off well! I'm starting to get out of my slump feeling down and depressed. I woke up with high hopes. AH was quiet this morning because he drank last night, but I reassured him that I loved him anyway. He was ashamed and tried to avoid me, but I decided to tell him that I joined an online group with woman who are married to alcoholics and who share in MY struggle. He really is a good guy, but he is a closet drinker so really doesn't display it in public. After reading some posts I think it's important that I take my voice back and stand strong. I need to get up and move forward and take MY life back...and hopefully he can bring himself a long too. I feel good knowing that I'm not as alone as I have felt for so long now. I take comfort in writing about my issues here rather than writing my thoughts down on a piece of paper at work only to shred it later. I prayed for you all last night....along with my family. Thank you for bringing me back! <3
I also addressed my PTSD issue with him. Something I have never mentioned aloud. I need to figure out how to work on myself. Something I'm not used to.
I think that the As don't really understand that their drinking affects the people around them. So I think it's good you shared with your husband that this IS a struggle for you. And that you're working on your own healing by reaching out. There is that theory that if we get healthy, they'll follow suit.
I'll keep you in my prayers.
One step at a time . . .
After many years of struggling unhappily and fairly silently ( except for the angry outbursts from time to time) I now am standing my ground and explaining to him how his drinking negatively affect our family and our marriage. I do not let him talk " around " the issues.
He knows I'm in support groups. Recently I told him that after 30 plus years of marriage I still love him and enjoy him during the moments he is sober. But I made it clear that he has pushed me to the point of staying for the $$$$. This seems to have touched a nerve with him. Sigh......
Sending all prayers and love.
