Hubby has been trying to stay in control of his drinking for the past two weeks and had been doing pretty well. Christmas was the first real big event that would “test” his ability. He failed.
When I went to talk to him about it today all he would say was, “I was having a good time with everybody. That’s all.” I told him how he kept telling me he was fine when he wasn’t. How he kept insisting to drive even though he shouldn’t have been. How am I supposed to trust him to keep me or himself safe?
He kept having a nonchalant attitude about it like it shouldn’t have been a big deal. He couldn’t even accurately tell me how many drinks he had over the course is the day. And when I told him, he tried to argue that it wasn’t that many drinks.
It was enough to get you drunk. And especially too many for someone who is supposed to be limiting their alcohol. I lost it. I was so angry that he didn’t think it was a big deal or see the consequences of his actions. I slept in our guest room because he was drunk snoring so loudly and flailing around the bed. Nope. Still didn’t get it. Me getting angry made him angry and it just blew up into something it shouldn’t have.
I’m so disappointed. And sad that he still doesn’t fully get it. And of course he will see it as me overreacting because “that’s what I do” and not taking any of the blame or responsibility’s on himself. I can’t be around him right now. Had he just showed some remorse or understanding we could have gone about our day. But no... he does no wrong and as long as he is having fun who cares what happens right?
