Hi, I'm new to this group, to this site in general. I'm desperately in need of support and strength to understand what I'm doing to myself and children being married to an alcoholic and to find strength to stay away when I leave. I feel like such a failure to my children and I've never felt so sad and so mad like this, these feelings are all the time. I don't know how to leave and stay away for good. It takes a strength I feel I don't have.
@326 That's the internal battle I face. A healthy stable relationship with a father is what they lack right now and of course a mother that's not happy. But I'm torn between staying and going because that means uprooting them from all they have. My husband is the type of man that has already stated that if I go, I'm not taking the kids bunk beds with me because "he paid for it" even though we've been married for years now. I feel my children will lose everything and I feel selfish in making that decision. And I don't know if they're old enough to make a decision about wanting to stay or go on their own.
You need to do what's best for you and your children. What has helped me was talking to my friends who have alcoholic parents or parent. All of them, 100% said they wish their other parent left sooner or left at all. I have quite a few friends who have alcoholic mom's and Dads. I say 5 off the top of my head. All of them wished they weren't subjected to the alcoholic parent.
I don't know if that helps. But it does shed some light.
