My husband has been in detox and rehab for the past 2 months. I am so proud of him for sticking with it . His sponsor told me the other day that it took him 5 stints in a half way house before he truly got sober. This is the only way my husband can have the career he hopes, is to stay in this latest center until they reduce the amount of time he has to be supervised. He is taking 2 classes outside of the center and I see him a few hours on Sunday and whenever he is walking through our neighborhood for an AA meeting.
I'm sharing because, yes it is tough. Being down to a single income isn't easy. Not having him home isn't easy, but having him home drunk before sucked. There are so many sad, desperate and angry stories shared on this group page, that I wanted to take the time to share a better outcome.
He is taking meds for a mood disorder, sleep, anxiety, and cravings. He may always have to be on these meds, but the payoff is he gets to have a life. There is no more alcohol in our house, ever. Not for holidays, not for parities, not when he tells me he has no cravings and it isn't a problem. That is my rule. There is no more me having a glass of wine when we go out to dinner with friends. That isn't fair to him even again if he says it isn't an issue.
I hope to bring hope that it can happen. There is hope. I know our relationship and bond isn't the same as many people in this group. Our love has always remained strong and he fought to get back to our life. I've had many tearful days and nights, but I get my faith that he would find his way out of the dark. I also gave myself a D-date to wait until, which I am glad I got no where close to. Both of our mother's told me it was ok to leave him.
I'm so glad you have hope and that your husband has made some good choices. Very happy for you both! It is so good to hear about a hopeful outcome!
Blessings to your family!
