Tonight my husband made the first step in admitting he had a drinking problem and is ready to seek help! He has NEVER admitted he had a problem! His eyes opened up when our son made the comment to his friend," Oh my daddy loves his beer more than me!" He broke down into tears and told me he wanted help!! Ahhh I'm praying he truly means it!!
That is so great for you! Will he be going to meetings and/or a substance abuse therapist? Those things will only help his recovery. I hope for you and your child/ren's sake he has hit his bottom! xo
Thank you all so much!! He's managed to only drink 4 beers and walk away! He is trying to find support groups around our area and looking into a therapist also! I know this road will be hard but he is truly seeing the way his drinking has affect ALL OF US!!! Keeping it positive!!!
Managing to drink 4 beers eventually is going to be turning into five beers than six beers than a 12 pack and then an 18 pack. He's already on the slippery slope without professional help he most likely will not succeed. I don't want to be the Debbie Downer here but there is a reality. There are resources in the areas like drug and alcohol resource and counseling. Drug and alcohol counseling is amazing you can do one-on-one or group therapy and it is outpatient. Then there's Alcoholics Anonymous but I would recommend some sort of drug and alcohol counseling first before Alcoholics Anonymous because it really helps the attic realize that they do have a problem and it gives them Stepping Stones on how to stay sober Alcoholics Anonymous does the same thing but I think having the counseling aspect and somebody helping out is a huge help. I'm glad that he realizes he needs help but this is just the beginning to a very long process. He need to make sure you set your boundaries with him.
That's really good news. Thank you for sharing with us. His reaction sounds like he does mean it.
I wish you and your family all the very best whilst he seeks the help and support you all need too, for him to recover xx
