My husband has not gone out on a drinking all night binge in over a month. He has gone to a few meetings, but he is not consistent and does not talk about getting coins or having to speak with a sponsor. Therefore, I feel like he is not taking these meetings seriously. In addition, he is having a significant difficult time sleeping through the night. He has always had sleep issues due to sleep apnea, but recently he has been waking up at 3 or 4 in morning and not being able to go back to sleep. He leaves the house really early on the weekends saying he is doing errands. He does not return smelling like alcohol. However, I have been wondering if he is doing Cocaine or marijuana. I really do not know what the signs of cocaine use are and how I can figure this out. I hate not being able to trust him, but he has told me too many lies. Anyone have any suggestions regarding how I could figure this out? If I ask him point blank, he will most likely lie. Thanks for your suggestions and support.

The sleep issues could be due to some degree of alcohol withdrawal. But you say he's had a lot of sleep problems anyway so it's hard to say. He should consider seeing a doctor to be safe. Even if he just goes for a routine check up, blood work may tell if there's anything in his system. If you're concerned about drug use, I don't see much way for you to find out without directly asking him. I don't know that it's possible (or legal) to secretly test him without his consent or knowledge. Would it be logical for him to be out doing whatever "errand" at whatever time he is going out? You know your husband better than anyone, you likely know when he's lying. Trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't.

Same thing with my hubby, he thinks of reasons to leave all the time. Mornings almost everyday. I'm wondering the same thing, especially with odd mood swings. Asking will just end up with me being lied to. I hope that you ind out answers to your questions.
