I am 23 living with my boyfriend for the past 3 years. He has struggled with alcohol since way before we met.
We have a better home life after two years of being unhappy we now have a puppy as well. He told me he was done drinking becuase of the things that have happened in our relationship and all the issues it has caused in his life. He kept on drinking of course i thought it was less but he was just really good at hiding it.
I been begging him to get help and stop drinking and he swore on everything he was not it went as far as him telling me he needs to see a doctor because he is losing hours in the day and falling alseep and he thinks something is wrong in his head and all this BS. This went on for months i thought he had a medical condition and he was feeding me lies and he was actually just wasted. The truth came out when he was literally 1 minute from our home when he fell asleep at the wheel hit two cars and got a felony and his lisence taken away for the second time. Now i have to drive him aroud for another two years. he had tried to get me to go with him that day too. He has taken our puppy on drives while impaired (figured that out through his aunt who was texting me telling me he has the dog and is trying to take his little sister while wasted) he swore he was just very tired and didnt get any sleep. ( lies) I was very miserable for years and im scared im just wasting my time if i stay with him.
I am having a really hard time seperating him from all the lies his has told me to feed his habit.
Support while I'm rehab. But if he lapses, you know it will be a forever roller coaster of you stay.
The driving and hitting parked cars could have been so much worse. He could be in prison for killing others. Can you live with him after that and still love?
LIVI, you don’t “have” to do anything. You say you’ll have to drive him around for 2 years. Not true. You can choose a different path for yourself. You can. I would think most of us in this group would say RUN. A lot of us are married to our AHs, you’re not. You can get out. Do yourself a favor and leave. Rarely does the drinking get better. I’m sorry to sound so negative and pessimistic, but you have a window of opportunity here. Take it!
More pessimistic stuff - take the next 3 weeks while he’s in rehab to get your things in order. If he’s a success story, great!! If not, you’re ready to go.
