Hello, I'm new to this group and hoping to get some clarity and support with my personal situation with my husband being an alcoholic. My story is very long to share but some basic info.....I've been married 17 years and have 3 teenagers. My husband has been in and out of our house so many times for treatment. He recently re-entered the home again. I'm struggling with what I observe in his recovery. I feel like he lies about anything and everything for no reason at times. His mood is up and down, mature at times then juvenile. Sweet and patient then snippy and rude. He can put the whole house on edge sober or not in an instant.
It was rough as hell for two entire years after he was sober. It was like the whole.family needed rewiring like a program reboot.
If he didn't stay sober that month July of 2016 I was done. Like done. Divorce I told him I was done. He did all the work himself and got help and sober he was 36 when he stopped drinking for good. He paid for it too I wasn't paying a dime for his recovery.
I think you are going to have to find what are your limits? What are your boundaries? What are you willing to live with and without?alcoholics are selfish pieces of shit. They have no care of others at all. They need to get sober for themselves and actually want to get sober
I happen to be an RN too. I have seen numerous alcoholics throughout my career and sometimes they admit they just want to drink and don't care who it hurts and don't care if it ruins their bodies or mind or life. Like they have surrendered to it. So sad.
You just need to start concentrating on you and your needs and do what you need to do for yourself. Time for you to be selfish and take care of you. I think my husband saw myself and the kids moving forward in life I was doing actives without him and realized if he wanted to move forward with us he had to get sober. And he had to want a sober lifestyle.
My husband is sober still since 7/2016
