Finally found the guts to move on from my AH. Saw a lawyer on Monday. Doing everything I need to do to protect my two little ones until he hopefully recovers from his addiction. But, our marriage is 100% over.
At this point, my AH is treating our kids like possessions, like pawns, like tools. He had the nerve to say that he deserves the custody of the kids because I cannot financially support them. He is trying to have discussions without our lawyers in hopes that we agree about custody. I don't think so, bud. Oh - did I mention he is an attorney himself. Also, he is currently working his way through a legal matter - a 2nd DUI with an extremely high (as in close to death) BAC.
At this point, I am frustrated, exhausted and increasingly frightened. He is not anywhere near stable and his world is crumbling around him.
However, even with all this chaos, I am so hopeful for a happier life.
Stay strong and don't let him push you around. I think dui and irresponsible parenting is a huge red flag and there irresponsible of way he will get custody if anything visitation only
You are doing the right thing. Protect your children and get them away from the chaos. You and your kids deserve to have some normalcy. I pray everything goes well.
Hate to say it but hitting bottom is the only thing that might turn things around for him. Unfortunately rock bottom for him means you and your kids were a part of that journey too. Just be aware that desperate (and intoxicated) people are capable of uncharacteristically heinous actions. Steel yourself and stay the course.
I hope you're able to work this out, definitely don't have discussions about custody without a lawyer! Ugh I know for me they said even though I wasn't making a ton of money I'm still the primary care giver, also no judge in their right mind would award custody to someone who drinks and drives
Life is so much better without the alcoholic.
