My Ah is telling everyone that he is not an alcoholic, he just misuses it sometimes. He used it while we were together (23 years) to create distance and to get his peace and time for himself. He knew that I would become cold and detached and so therefore he acheived what he wanted. Then the next day he would apologize, feel guilty and spoil me with attention. This was our roller coaster ride for years. But now that I'm gone, he says that he has it completely under control. I've been gone for 2 months now. We have had no contact for 6 weeks. He has a new group of friends and is even going on a cruise over Christmas. Its very obvious that he has a girlfriend but avoids answering the question. He won't admit it.
Why do I again feel that I am the reason for his drinking? He never comes right out and blames me but always hinst to it. I've decided to go cold turkey. NO CONTACT! NO MORE INFORMATION abbout where hes going or what hes doing. I am only concentrating on me and my future. Time will tell what happens with his drinking. I have to let go!!!
But have any of your AH said that he is not an alcoholic, he just abuses it sometimes!
Good for you! He obviously hasn't hit bottom yet because he can't admit he is an alcoholic. It is sad, isn't it? My AH told me he drinks because of me. He accused me of an affair 13 years ago (that never happened) and that is why he drinks. Whatever. I left him 3 1/2 months ago and am seeking a divorce. He has been emotionally abusive for way to long now and I don't deserve his mis-treatment. He wants me to think he doesn't care that I have left, yet he calls and asks me out for dinner 2-3 times a week. I don't get it. We were talking about alcoholism the other day, casual conversation, then suddenly I am a nag. Huh. I hope you can find peace Tryin2moveon and I hope you have friends to talk to. I have 3 wonderful friends who have been there for me for these past few months and I so cherish their friendship. They have helped me tremendously!
We have so much in commen. The blame and denial is unbelievable. I read your profile and your posts. Have you read mine? I sent you a message the other day after reading your post. My Ah is also a functional alcoholic. The emotional abuse was really bad. He drank 20 of our 23 years of marriage. In the end he wanted out. He said that I didn't fullfill his needs. (meaning sex). And this all happened 3 weeks before I was scheduled for my 8th bladder cancer surgery! I'm sure he has a girlfriend but he won't admit it. He just tells everyone that I left and so it's my fault.
I'm living with my dear friend and her husband. I too have wonderful peolple supporting me. And 2 great kids!! It's been 4 weeks since my surgery. I feel good and I'm going to my sisters in Canada for Christmas with my son. Three more days and I get a 2 week break from this nightmare!! The legal battles have begun!! I filed for a legal seperation. I need to get stronger. It's not going to be easy! The break will do me good!
Thanks for you supporting words. Best wishes for a peaceful Christmas!!
