Wives of Alcoholics Community Group
A forum of healing and help for wives of alcoholics.
Hi all,
I am new to this group and am seeking some thoughts by people in the same situation. I have been married for a short 6 months and have been with my husband for 4 years. He has a 9 year old son who I adore, and who adores me. My husband is an alcoholic. I can't say I didn't know about his drinking problem but I guess I thought it would get better. He is also on pain meds for his back which, I know makes it worse. He drinks very strong drinks and mixing it with the pain pills makes him in a very nasty, irritable mood. He would never be physical with me but gets very angry at the smallest things. Even towards his son. Tonight I was trying to explain to him how to use the new training collar for our dog and he angrily insisted and argued with me saying I must be wrong. I have several years working in animal hospitals and kennels and just worked at a kennel today, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to this. So, then he starts mumbling and cussing that I'm in the wrong, like he's yelling about me, but not to me, even though I am in the room. We have had a fight like this at least 3 times in the past week. Now, like any other night this happens, he is passed out in his recliner in front of the TV. Most times i go to bed alone. The other night he got like this because I didn't want to have sex at 1am, even though I had already been sleeping. Also, it hard to want to have sex with someone who is acting like this towards me. So, he angrily yelled for a while and then went and slept in his son's room (his son was not here this night). In december, he was so depressed about his drinking and said he was having withdrawals, so checked himself into a hospital, stayed one night, and came home the next day. He said he never wanted to drink again, and with in a week, was back at it. This has been an ongoing thing. He stops drinking for a week or so and then hits it hard again. He actually went almost a month in AA not too long ago, and even had a sponsor but that didn't last long. I am really struggling. I do love him but I'm not sure I can go on like this for the rest of my life. Maybe if anyone reading this has been in the same situation, they can tell me how they cope or coped with this sort of thing. Thanks for listening......
