My husband and I have been together for almost 5 years. I knew he drank when we started dating. Over the years his drinking has become unbearable. He works and drinks and that has become his life. We have 5 children and 4 of them teenagers and they don't want to be around him. He won't admit that he has a problem. It is tearing out marriage apart. We know lo g go on dates and are very seldom intimate with one another because he choose whisky over me. When I mention this to him it always ends in a huge fight and he does not see his fault in anything. I don't k ow how much longer I can do this. How to I set boundaries with out ending our marriage?

The only way I was able to set boundaries was by recording him, and showing him his bad behavior. The guilt of being a bad father and husband weighed heavily on him. I one day just told him I couldn’t do it anymore and wanted to save our kids from this burden. Came up with some plan to get another job and stay in the house until I could financially be stable enough to support the kids and myself. When he was sober that was...when he was thinking clearly and I could see the goodness in his eyes. It was then when he chose to become sober. He managed to keep it together for about 8 months before he picked up another bottle. That’s the hard part. You learn to trust them one day and over a sip it’s all over and you have to start again. I hate it! Someone told me that eventually they’ll be more sober days in between until theyre able to kick the habit all together. Right now we’re on a sober streak, but I don’t think it will last past this week judging by his moodiness. I wish I had better advise. I hope it works out for you and your family!
