My AH has had many relapses over the past two years. The final one was when he could not accept that his back surgery was not causing an immediate pain free existence. The narcotics for the recovery period were not enough and the alcohol was back. I have never seen my AH after a combo of those, and I got so upset I left. I am living with my daughter and family now and filed for legal separation. I'm going through a guilt trip now because he needed to take off work with the surgery and was afraid his health insurance was ending. He blames these things for his relapse. I have told him that I want to see a year of sobriety and then we have a possible future. I've been gone for a month and we talk every day. He's found an AA group he likes and is taking the antabuse his primary care doctor gave him once when they talked about the pain- depression- alcohol cycle. Any hope for us?
I think you should watch what he does. A year of sobriety is a smart move. My husband got out of rehab and 4 days later started drinking again. We're separating. I heard it takes a lot of work to be sober. It was hard I'm sure for you to get to the place where you had to leave. Just my thoughts that it is too soon to go back, wait and see how he does with his sobriety. Take care
