Three days ago, after a 3 week binge I told my husband he needed to go to the hospital and rehab. he said ok. This isn't the first time.
I told him I would take him and he started to make excuses of what he had to do, I told him either you go by 11:00 or I am not taking you. He complied. I have legal seperation docs being reviewed and feel closer to being abe to let this all go. The last 3 years have been a challenge and I don't intend to live my life this way. So many lies. The one that just got me was that he took a leave from a trainig program by claiming his mom had a stroke and he had to take care of her . She had a stroke 3 years ago and initially we would visit every month. Hardly ever now. I am disgusted but more than anything heartbroken that he used his mother's illness as an excuse.
He called me from detox tonight and it felt like a test. He said he knew I had divorce papers ready and that he just knew he had to do it. I didn't confirm or deny what I had as I think the plan for me will be to tell him while a counselor is present. I guess there is also never a good time for it. I still have that ache in me that asks "what will be of him?" He has no money, work, or education. I am understanding that it is not my purpose in life to save him. Nor is divorce going to make it worse, cause three weeks of binging and staying at hotels rather than home is past the point of destruction. It is already worse. My responses are different, I can hear them. I don't know if he can or not . It is a long way to humility.
