Why do I still care for my verbally abusive AH? I'm so unhappy when I'm there, then I leave and I miss him. All he'd have to do is stop drinking vodka and I'd be back in a flash, but too many years have gone by. I'm sad either way. I didn't want to leave, I couldn't stay. What now?

I get what your saying, sometimes I think my AH is my addiction.... After 30+ yrs together I don't even know any different. It scares the hell out of me. He refuses to quit I want more than that but don't know how. Its so selfish of them. Hang in there you will find your way to happiness!

Thanks DSTRICK, I was there again today, didn't want to leave, but felt like I had to.

I am starting to wonder if I care or if I'm so used to taking care of him I wouldn't know what to do when I left? I'm teetering on the edge of leaving. It's not his sober state that's a problem - it's his drunkenness.

Perseverance, same here it's not the sober moments that drive you away. How long can you be expected to deal with it though? All I was to my AH was a maid. There has been no intimacy at all for many years, and I don't expect a lot, but a peck on the cheek or arm around my shoulder every now and then.
