I just joined this group this evening in hopes to make a few connections with ladies in similar situations as myself, and so I can get some support with the difficult and confusing aspect of my life. I hope to be able to share with you and receive some advice.
Thank you all. My husband and I are currently going through a rough patch for him. He was sober for 6 months and a few things tipped his scale and he's being drinking behind my back once a week for the past 6 weeks or so. It was tough to face, he seemed to be doing okay. I'm thankful it's only once a week for now and he's really really trying to deal but it's still difficult.
Across...it may be hard but I would be the first to encourage working at the relationship if you honestly still love him and cannot imagine a life without him. In other words, can you imagine actually leaving and never having him in your life?
I have struggled with this with my ex. But he never tried to face his drinking problem. Or never wanted to quit..just control. In meantime, he was cheating constantly. That broke it for us. So if your guy is really trying, support him but don't try to control his drinking. That's his job. Suggest al anon to help you with the effects this relationship has on you. Very important to take care of yourself emotionally and right now, your husband is fighting for his life and future so difficult for him to be there for you right now.
I do deeply love my husband, he is an incredible person. Like many others here, when my husband drinks he's a totally different person. He constantly tries to face his drinking problem. Most days, he is able to defeat it. For example, he caved today. He was near a friend's home that had committed suicide about a year ago. He had to run an errand over that way so he stopped by the memorial site. It made me want to have one in his honor if you will, so he did. I saw the charges come across the credit card. He doesn't know that I know, so I was quite anxious when I got home. He was pretty darn normal. I have to say he hasn't been able to drink in recent times and be normal so it was pretty surprising. It still stung a little because we just talked about how he wants to get it in control. I know it isn't easy. I plan on finding myself the emotional help I need. I am codependent so controlling his issues have consumed me.
