So he still manages to go to work everyday but as soon as he gets out he starts drinking. He hides it from me, so I really don't know but I estimate 3-4 bottles of whiskey a week. He has started to hallucinate now. Its pretty scary to witness. He was breathing so outrageous last night during a hallucination, I thought he was gonna have a heart attack. He is bleeding from the rectum horribly. He has been bleeding for yrs but always blamed it on hemorrhoids. But now its gotten so much worse. I see spots (sorry for the gross description) of blood on the bathroom floor after he showers. On the towel, at times I think it could compare to a heavy menstruation flow. Of course he still urinates the bed. I can't take much more of this. Something has just got to give. Scared to think how this is gonna end. But hoping it ends soon and nobody else but himself gets hurt.
Sound like internal bleeding. His hulations could be mini seizures
That how my husband started out then it was full blow seizures as
Major loss of blood. I had noticed blood spots too then it looked like black
Tarry coffee grinds in the commode. He almost died that day.
He definitely need to go to the Doctors.
Many Hugs and Prayer I know how hard this is to stand by and watch them
Kill themselves
My ex-husband is a whiskey drinker as well, drinking a handle every two days. I know he's had some times when he was bleeding but not consistently, that may have changed since I left. What you describe sounds extremely scary. This disease is just awful, what's making him sick also convinces him that he needs it.
How do you handle this stress? What do you do for yourself?
Sending hugs, I too know how hard it is to watch him do this.
I know this is really hard but you need to think of yourself now, he's chosen his path, there's nothing you can do about it if he won't take it seriously. The stress of living with an alcoholic, and especially end-stage can be very taxing on your own health. Please consider, if you aren't already, seeking out help. A therapist, especially one who specializes in alcoholism and the family, can help you with tools to stay sane and make difficult decisions.
At 29 years of marriage (3 years ago), I left my husband because he continued to not take sobriety seriously, even went to detox just to get me off his back, but drank the minute he got out. He did not care that I had reached my rock bottom, he did not care enough about himself or our marriage to get help over the next two years while we were separated, he did not care enough when I filed for divorce last summer. He goes on and on about how much he loves me and would do anything for me, but it's still not enough to seek out help and be determined to never drink again. It hurts knowing that yes he loves me, but no he does not have the strength or determination to do something about his drinking.
It's taken me this long to realize that I am worth it, that my life matters too. We only get one and just like the alcoholic we have to have the strength and determination to live a life that we want. So I hope you'll see that you are worth it too (we all are!) and no matter what you decide, live a life that you choose. Many hugs!
I'm so sorry for what you're going through! . My love just died a month ago on a sidewalk a thousand miles from here. I had to back away for my sanity/life 3 yrs. Ago. I have a lot to process in my mind from our 21 years! But so happy I found this site. Alcohol is a wicked thief! You're not alone!
I just joined this group today, but when I read this post it was as if I had written it. Ive been married to my AH for 21 years and the last 10 have been horrible. For a long time I've found ways to deal with it, but in the last 2 years I've given up. I'm tired of being alone in a marriage, tired of isolating myself from people so they won't find out, tired of cleaning up messes. I'm sad, lonely, angry and emotionally and physically exhausted. I used to think his drinking would kill him, but now fear the stress of it all will kill me first. I completely understand how you feel lostinpain92...you're not alone.
