Hi, I'm new to this forum. My Husband has been an alcoholic for at least 10 years. We've been married for 22 and have 4 sons, and if I'm honest I believe he may have had a problem when I met him at college but I just didn't recognize the signs. It became a serious problem 10 years ago and has progressed.
The only good news is that he has been sober for approximately 8-9 mos. While I applaud him for the awesome effort and turn around in many areas of his life and its positive impact on our marriage, I'm getting a little nervous that something is going on with him. He has started becoming verbally combative with me in normal conversation. It doesn't have to be anything important; it can, and usually is, very frivolous chat and he will play devils advocate to the extreme, or make me feel like I have to re-explain what I said because he doesn't seem to understand what I said. I might say, "let me put it another way...", or, "If we're going to split hairs I'll say it like this then.." or "Did you not understand what mean?". Then he will tell me he wasn't meaning to start an argument. It's about to drive me batty! There was a period of time a couple months into sobriety that conversation cleared up and this sort of thing didn't happen. Talking in circles stopped happening and I'm noticing starting to subtly begin again.
I don't want to be paranoid, but I also want to trust my instincts. I hope Im making sense.
Have you all encountered such a thing with so many months of sobriety under the belt?

I"m sorry, I wish I could give you some input. I haven't had experience with that many months of sobriety yet. It was just two months for us before the signs started to come back, and my instincts were right. I hope someone has some good input for you.
