I'm sorry you're feeling this way. Every time my husband has had a stint of sobriety (longest stint was just shy of 2 mos.), that time has always offered up its own set of challenges. Simply put, your husband's sobriety is just too fresh to know what your new normal is. He doesn't even know what HIS new normal is! If he's like my husband and just dry knuckling it with no program or support, he's probably climbing the walls inside of his head.
Try to do something to give yourself some love - - difficult in these times, I know! Maybe a walk? Do you have a dog? A new nail polish or lipstick.... you have to be your own best friend right now!
This is exactly what I am going through. Since he stopped drinking (because his liver failed and he now needs a transplant), he is just a jerk. Since I have only known him drunk, I think if I met him when he was sober, he would still be an asshole.
Great, 35 years wasted on an asshole. The only good thing about his covid mess is that he has been hospitalized a majority of it and I cannot visit him and HAVE NOT BEEN HAPPIER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
You made me laugh. Thank you because I needed to. I have wasted 33 years with my functioning alcoholic. Yup! He was an alcoholic when I met him, I just never really realized it. I think us wives must be the strongest women around. I am heading out of town to visit my kids and can hardly wait to get on the plane. It is like I can breathe when I am away from him. I totally understand how you must feel. Be good to yourself.
