When he came home Friday night drunk and told him it was unacceptable, I hadn't seen him since. So..didn't see him yesterday, talked to him once and told him he wasn't welcome home anymore drunk or at the kids functions drunk, but other than that, its been quiet. He decided to call me today to let me know he was ok, sober, and really struggling, and what hotel he is staying at should I need to reach him. I thanked him for letting me know. Then he tells me how he is 72 hours sober, that right now is the most sober he can be. hmm. I don't say much. then he tells me he's been detoxing and has had pretty bad sweating, shakes and has had some heart palpitations. I let him know that it is very dangerous to water detox from whisky w/o medical supervision -- that he could have seizures and it could kill him. I guess he was absorbing what I was saying. I guess all I can do is warn him. There was a lot of pity party but I didn't respond, didn't give in to it should it be just bait. Instead i thanked him for letting me know where he was and he could come get his cell phone in the morning.
That's a good sign! He wants to quit, right? He should maybe try in patient program. My husband has detox a few times shakes sweats splitting headaches and vomiting. I told him to not detox like that again he scared the shit out of me. At least go see a primary care doctor. I got him orange juice candy and martinilles apple cider. I guess the body can go into glucose shock from no alcoh since alcohol turns into sugar.
I really hope he changes and gets the help he needs.
Ahh CC...I wish. I've been here before last Valentines Day. Unfortunately. Yeah, it is not wise to be a serious drinker and detox w/o medical supervision from a hospital. It really isn't. I told him this last year but its obvious he didn't remember me telling him this. No surprise. He has a damaged brain that doesn't always remember stuff. But, does he want to quit? Right now he does. But when or if he comes back home there is a very good chance he could go back to drinking when he thinks all is well at home again and he is safe to.
Now I'm also dealing with a son who I've always had trouble with. He has anger issues and is being a complete disrespectful jerk. I just cant hardly deal with it all. Its really too much.
One is a sophomore in college, 2 are high school juniors, and one sophomore in high school. It's one of my HS juniors that is always so ugly. He is the eldest adopted son (we adopted a sibling pair). He use to be physically violent but I'm so thankful I haven't seen that in a while. I wish he could graduate early and be sent on his way. Even tonight, we got home late and pizza was on the menu. He didn't like what I was offering and stomped off in a 2 year old tantrum. I worry about him and worry about any potential girlfriends or future wife. He will treat them awful. And yes, he has been to a phychiatrist and it was very interesting to find he doesn't have clinical reasoning skills or common sense among other things.
I really hope he changes and gets the help he needs.
My husbands going on 72 hours sober as well
