Well fooled again. Thought things were going better. We had several real talks about his drinking and how he was feeling. He kept telling me how great he felt not drinking. Thought we finally had a break through. Till i found the three bottles of vodka today, one empty and two half full. He tells me they are weeks old, he doesn’t even know where they came from. Except for the fact that we just moved 5 weeks ago so we haven’t even been in the house long enough for them to be that old. I am more upset by the lying. I thought we had finally connected about if he did mess up and drink, to at least be honest. I want to leave him so bad but so scared about him having joint custody of our kids. One is 2 and i am due in a few weeks. He is high functioning and hides the drinking well. I feel i have to stay at least till the kids would be old enough to call for help. When he passes out, he doesn’t even hear our son crying. I can’t risk leaving them alone with him. I just thought we had finally started down a good path, only to find out nothing has really changed.
I’m so sorry! The reason I am still with my husband is the same as you, I don’t want my kids alone with him on the weekends. It’s awful to be stuck in a marriage where you are not getting what you need but I will always put my kids safety first. When they are high functioning and hide it there is no way to keep the kids from them. Hang in there! Sometimes hope can really hurt.
Hi Ladies, (sevier too)
I have a high functioner too. They try to get it down to a science, how much they can drink and get away with. My husband brought alcohol into the house today, which is a no no. A week ago, he had a shot in front of me. So I think soon enough he’ll be back in full form.
After I figured out he was drinking tonight, I had a very calm conversation with him and walked away leaving him in the living room alone.
I’m proud of how much I’ve grown. I am proud of him too, but there’s just too much at risk for there to be room for error.
I’m going to stay cautious. Everyday in this life you just have to stay woke. You can never get comfortable. It’s a lot of responsibility. I understand your frustration. Much love and prayers.
