I have not been online in a while. I guess I have just set some boundaries and only spend time with my sig other when he is sober on the weekends. Lately, I have been spending more time with him during the week and he has been drinking on some days, but not horribly. So I have laxed a little on my rules/boundaries. A mistake.
Tonight he was likely at the bar all day while I was out and came back home and I heard a huge thump. He appeared to have fallen down stairs in his condo and appeared unconscious at the base of the stairs. I was about to call 911 and he responded to my voice. He did not appear be hurt, but was wasted. Fearing I would call 911, he crawled up the stairs and became belligerent with me threatening suicide and saying I "set him up" and could "no longer be trusted" because I called his sister to come over. He sometimes threatens suicide, but only when he is drunk. A very bad night. A wake up call to remind me that things are not any better and wondering if this has happened before when I am at my place. I pray for his safety, but know this is not the life I want. Why don't I leave the relationship? His sister is supportive and telling me to take care of myself and is encouraging me to keep some distance from him for a while.
I hear you loud and clear. My AH is highly functioning too! When he is sober he is great, but 5:00 Pm rolls around he becomes a know it all. He drinks because “of stress and money problems “, but I have the same stresses. I start a new job working 7p to 7a trying to get a break from his drinking at least 3 days a week. Does he realize he is the reason I took this job!!
Hi deb58,
I find there is always an excuse why he feels he needs to drink. The excuses are getting old. Exactly!!! We all have problems and challenges or obstacles to overcome and don't drink. There are other ways like counseling, talking to friends, etc... I did not speak to him for 5 straight days after the incident last weekend. I have to say that although I thought about him, I felt as if a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders because I was not getting drunk texts every night and dealing with all the drama. I guess that tells me something. Now he is texting me and talking about quitting his job? A very bad decision given his current state of mind. Will just create a whole new set of stresses and excuses to drink.
I very much understand why you wanted a break with the job. Totally!!! I am fortunate that I still have my own place. Otherwise, we would not have lasted this long. My heart goes out to you and I hope for some relief for you. Thank you for your support and reaching out. And no, he does not likely realize you took the job to get time away from him. If there is one thing I have learned, it is only about them and their feelings, based on my experience anyhow. Sadly. Hugs.
