After learning only a week ago that I am not going to enable his drinking anymore, AH suggested today that while our teenagers are gone this weekend, and after we get our little guy to bed, we have a fire in our fire-pit and sit outside (and drink). After my reminder that I won't drink with him, he said he didn't know if I meant "forever". Now, we had a lengthy discussion about enabling, which at the time he understood and AGREED with. Today though he argued that only kids don't drink at a bonfire (bull!) and that it wouldn't be fun to do it without alcohol. Granted, we did this in the past, and usually had a good night...but that was before I realized that he is likely NEVER going to get better as long as it's "ok" to drink "every once in awhile" (it always starts to escalate). My head is saying NO, stick to my guns. Would really love thoughts though!!!!

No, I don't think it's a good idea. Just my humble opinion. I couldn't even be around my alcoholic when he was drinking, let alone drink with him.

Oh yes - I was drinking right along with my hubby. I never drank as much, but we would 'party' on the weekends. However - if we went out, I was ALWAYS the DD, so my drink was limited while he drank as much as he possbily could. So yes, I drank right along with him up until a few years ago. Then I grew up.

I had pretty much decided while typing my post that I needed to stick with my decision to not drink with him (this waffling has been my problem in the past). He hasn't asked again yet, and he may not, since he woke up with alcohol breath this morning (he doesn't get home from work until almost midnight and I am usually asleep). So, the bottle he had last night may keep him from wanting more over the weekend (may). So far I am doing great in detaching from his problem, but it's been easy so far. He isn't a "mean" drunk, just the opposite, the "mean" may kick in a few days from now though. Anyway, no drinking with him for me.
