I was just diagnosed with breast cancer. My husband left 8 months ago following an intervention and has since filed for divorce and moved in with a younger female co-worker (AFTER a no paramour order was issued to spare our 12yr old daughter from any more stress)...To truly see how alcoholism can steal a man's soul is to see how he responds to his wife of 14yrs being diagnosed with cancer. Which was really "no" response. When picking up our daughter the day after my diagnosis he just pulled in the end of the driveway as usual and texted for her to come out. I then get a text a few days later trying to bargain letting me stay on his insurance if I agree to let our daughter spend the night with him and his "paramour". He hasn't even asked what stage of cancer or type or anything. This is a man who wrote me letters and cards telling me I was his best friend and he loved me more than anything and was so lucky to be my husband "forever". But he forgot the clause "unless my drinking was threatened".
Mitty, I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis of breast cancer, I am sending you prayers for strength at this difficult time, hugs to give you comfort, and hope for a quick and full recovery.
I am so sorry about this. THIS IS NOT RIGHT BY ANY MEANS. I hope that you can find support to get you through this.
I recently had to get a biopsy to my breast due to a highly suspicious lump. It came back negative. BUT his response was that he did not care. He was mad that he had to ask for a day off to go with me for the mri guided biopsy. That was a huge wake up call for me. He did not stick to his vows, for better or worse, rich or poor sickness and in health. SO I AM leaving if he cannot show change.
I had a friend say something to me that really stuck and it was so true:
"The addict is selfish. The whole family is surrounded with their addiction, their problem, and everyone has to make sacrifices and changes to their lives because of the alcoholic. It is not fair.'
that is dead on!!! Everyone caters to the alcoholic when the alcoholic dose not contribute shit. They are not symbiotic, they are parasitic and suck the life outta you to continue their destructive habit.
I hope that you have a strong support system and can beat this cancer. Fight it, and hang in there
Thank you everyone, this is making me stronger and the threats of health insurance are making it easier for me to get over the sadness of my broken marriage. No one deserves this type of treatment, life is too short.
Sorry the husband is being an @$$.
Hugs
Ginny

I hope you find some good support groups in your area, it is clear that your husband isn't going to be supportive.
