Wives of Alcoholics Community Group
A forum of healing and help for wives of alcoholics.
I am new to this forum and I am glad I found it. I want to share my story living with an alcoholic husband hoping that you can give me some advise. I have been married for 8 months and did not know I was marrying and alcoholic until recently. My husband is a 37 yr. old man who works a lot and is obsessed with success and money and is also a Director, so one day after coming back from a business trip, he decided he no longer wanted to be with me (after 5 months of marriage) because apparently I had stolen his happiness. He stonewalled me for 1 month and started drinking non-stop every evening after work. I had to deal with his rage, sarcassm, passive-agressiveness, manipulation and his name calling and rejection. I lost 10 lbs in 1 month as I was extremely anxious and nervous. Anyways; one day he got extremely drunk and pushed me really hard against the back of his truck as he got mad at me for not letting him drunk drive.....worst day ever! He yelled at me in fornt of a lot of people and called me so many names, I was crying and scared. I decided to walk back to our house and he made fun of me for being a drama queen and overreacting. I spent a couple of nights away from home for safety reasons. He never apologized and stated never wanting to hurt me but admitted to enjoy being "mentally abusive" towards me. I started going to therapy, al-anon meeting and church just to help me deal with the sadness. The following weekend, he went out with his work peeps and did not come home until the following morning. He was feeling ashamed and scared and told me that he passed out in his truck and had vomit all over his pants, pretty much he had a blackout and was scared. He finally admitted he had a problem and stated he needed help. He has decreased his amount of wine intake but still drinks pretty much every day. At the moment he is waaay too busy with his work and is working home even on the weekends ( I guess it helps him to take his mind off of the alcohol). Our relationhisp has deteriorated because of the alcohol, yet he blames me for the problems in our relationship. I am so resented at him because he lied to me and I dont understand why he married me if he knew he had a problem? He told me today that he knows I am not happy and thinks I should be better if I leave him. He was married for less that 2 years and got divorced in 2006, so why did he wait 10 years to get married again if he knew I was gonna be "better" off without him? Any advise on how to let go of the anger and resentment I am feeling right now?
