I know its an odd question to ask however I question myself whether my AH drinks more or less what other AH husbands drink. I know we cant really know how much they drink because they hide it so darn well however Im just curious and would like to compare. My husband tells me I exaggerate his drinking but I dont think so. He buys a half gallon of vodka and can drink it in a week. or two To me that is alot of booze considering I drink 2 drinks on a weekend and I am happy. He thinks because he doesnt get falling down drunk that hes fine and isnt a drunk but I totally disagree with that notion.
Hi rummi, the challenge with this question is how their tolerance builds up over time. If you feel it's excessive, it is. You need to trust your gut and rely on your intuition. AHs are good at getting us to doubt ourselves and making us feel stupid.
My soon to be ex-AH used to drink just beer, but drank to get drunk every day. He's been battling sobriety for the last 4+ years and is now able to drink 1.7 liters of Vodka in a day. YIKES! I'm surprised he is still living to be honest.
The last time he checked into a treatment center, his BAC was .432. Everything I read says that he should have been dead or in a coma. Even after that (and a similar BAC when he went to a center before), he still thinks he can drink socially and is surprised when it spirals into a relapse.
I agree naezer - tolerance is a crucial component. My AH drinks a handle (about a half gallon) of whiskey every two days. I too wonder how he can possibly not have had any catastrophic health issues to this point.
My AH drinks mostly beer but he can go thru almost a case a day. He has many health issues
Brought on by the drinking.. He is a very negative person only time he tries to be nice is when he wants something and if he does not get it of course the he goes to talking to himself being very bitter
And more negative ...he has been told many times that his drink is Lilly him but of
Course he know they are ply trying to scare him.:-(
My AH drinks a 30 pack of beer every weekend, plus a twelve pack or more during the weekday evenings. He doesn't drink liquor, anytime he does, he tries to drink it like beer and it makes him sick. I know it sounds awful, but one of the rare nights that he drank until he puked, I laid in bed smiling at the sound of it; thinking FINALLY some consequences.
Usually he drinks about 18 beers on Saturday alone. By dinner he is an obnoxious jerk. If he has health problems he won't know until it kills him. He refuses to go to the doctor for any reason. He keeps heartburn and blames everything but the beer. Nuts.
1.75l of whiskey every 5 days. Depending on his mood will top off the evening with ameretto night caps (probably about 6 to 8 onces). He does not think he has a drinking problem either because he can get up and go to work no problem. I believe that he has developed a great deal of tolerance to alcohol; and dependancy as well. I can see subtile changes in him at around 2 pm (on weekends), as the time for his first drink of the day approaches. As we both work, I don't know what he is like during the week, but I know (at this point) that he will not drink while working as he would loose his job immediately. But look out when he gets home, that first drink goes down fast.
Most of the time he gets depressed when he drinks and sometimes can not remember what he has done (broke glasses, told his brother off, etc...)
Is complaining about his weight gain (4500 cal in 1.74 l of whiskey, 3500 cal in a pound of fat) and blames it on the food protion sizes I serve him (I have started to make him dish up how much he wants to eat).
Told the Doctor that he has acid indigestion and was given pills for it. Guess the Dr did not try to investigate why he has acid indigestion (or maybe he did but was not told the truth). I am guessing that the booze and high blood pressure pills don't play well together either.
My AH drinks a half gallon of Wild Turkey 101 about every 2-3 days. He has for over 15 years now. I honestly don't know how he's still alive.
I wish my AH drank that little. He can drink two 1.75 liters of whiskey in three days. I think my AH is trying to embalm himself. I don't drink and he truly disgusts me.
I would say my stbx goes through 3-4 cases of beer a week. The minute he gets home from work, he reaches for a beer. Drank beer at the dinner table while the kids and I drank milk. Came to bed with a beer every night. Has no less than 4 cases around the house or in his truck at any given time. In fact, when it is on sale - he buys a pallet. However, my stbx doesn't hide it, in fact, he is very proud about his drinking. He goes to work everyday (usually. Has called in 'sick' on occasions), therefore doesn't have a problem ya know. He has the typical beer gut, fat face, hair loss, has had pneumonia twice, sleep apnea, acid reflux. But has never had a DUI or lost his job, so he doesn't have a problem....
That about what k be drink not to mention the vodka ..if it was me I would already be dead
I guess their inside are so pickled they can't feel anything.
Such a sad way to go.
Hugs and prayers for us that's left behind
Geez, I have no idea how much he really drinks. I know it doesn't take much. If he has a couple dollars in his pocket that's good enough for him. I am curious to what he drinks, I believe it is vodka mainly, used to be Jack Daniels. Some days I smell this really sweet odor and I can't figure what it is but he's very functional when I smell this. Maybe there are flavored liqours...I tend to avoid the liquor section of stores so I really don't know.
That scent just really makes me wonder though. If he were to drink beer only, he's ok. But that's not enough for him.
I'm not sure , but I remember that he never EVER went to bed without a "wake-up " beside him for when he woke up. I'm pretty certain he could drink 3-5 5th of red port in a day or 2 or 3 5th of bourbon. He tried to quit and nearly did from time to time over the years , at least cutting down to a 40 of high grav. Beer. He had a grand Mal one of the times. I must say, that I could see a change over all the years we spent together where he literally developed alcoholic dementia (wernicke encephalopathy ). I suffered so much that it did something inside of me. I gave up! What a relief to just declare. No! I Am not strong! Not trying to preach, but I just gave my all and everything to God and got to really know him thru every means possible. It saved my life. I stayed separate the last 3 years of his life, but prayed a great deal for him. After he died, I went to his little cabin. There beside his bed was a bible. He is finally free of the addiction, in heaven. The vile, tortuous streams of words that can spew from the mouth of a longterm alcoholic are purely wicked and not from our loved ones, but "through" them.
The advised number of drinks (beer, wine, etc.) per week for a man is 14 and for women it is much less.
I watched a man drink beer, wine and a Manhattan daily. He was retired and would drink when he was awake. He recently had back surgery - the tests did not show a problem with the alcohol - or maybe he isn't telling the truth. I do not drink - never liked the taste of any alcohol so watching someone slowly destroy their life really offends me. We are not coming back - this is it.
I honestly cannot imagine what would happen to me if I were to drink constantly!

But, he does not have a problem because like so many of your partners he is a functional alcoholic.
