The hope is what seems hard to let go of, the hope that the person i knew will magically walk through the door, the hope that the person I used to wonderfully communicate with will walk through the door, the hope that the person I used to be so excited to see will walk through the door, but then the disappointment comes into focus, the hurt comes into to focus, the length of time the person I knew has been gone becomes a reality, and the probability of change becomes a hurtful reality...Then comes the hope...
I understand. Hope always scares me actually because it has been dashed not long after allowing myself to feel it. Each time it seems to be a bigger let down. Hugs
My alcoholic husband is currently in rehab and will be for 35 days. This is the biggest step forward that he has ever taken. Do I dare hope? A little but I'm not putting all of my hopeful eggs in one basket this time. The rest of those hopeful eggs are going into the basket of what i can do to move me forward in the positive. So, I am working on my grandmothers house in the event I need to move there. I had a consultation with a lawyer today about legally separating and what that would look like. I also saw my therapist today to work on some of my emotions -- I'm working toward a healthier me. I NEED to be healthier mentally than I have become over the years of living with an alcoholic.
It's tough with a 17 year relationship I have also acquired 7 cats and three dogs (all rescues) that I am singly responsible for, so renting is not an option, I am stuck until i can save enough to purchase my own home. That's the frustrating part as well, he simply walks away from any responsibility to be comforted when confronted, and I have to maintain responsibility and security for all that I love. The kids are finding their way in life, finding their direction and footing, not quite ready to leave the nest. trying to maintain sanity and balance is tough.
