went to hubby's new company work party last weekend. He's upper management and was prepping me to not nag him about having a couple drinks because he wants to show the blue collar guys he's "relatable". He said he was excited to make me proud (i could tell he was already on his way to stonerville). Once we got there he hung with me for all of 10 minutes before he was off working the room and pressing the flesh. I ate dinner alone, made pathetic conversation with a bunch of people I didn't know and was later greeted with a drunk husband who told me to fuck off in front of his co-workers. I wasn't embarrased. I was sad for him. He's a great man and I love him but this addiction has taken the man I love away from me and he's become a scared, angry and depressed person. I was able to convince someone to help me get him to the car where he proceeded to pass out. I let him sleep it off in the garage overnight (we live in the snowy mountains)....
i'm left feeling empty. I know what I need to do. I plan to take my 5year old and 8 year old out of this situation even though he is a great father and loves his children.....i see the light going from my whole family. I have to save these sweet souls from becoming an empty, resentful and depressed carcass like their mother. I have an appointment with a therapist on Friday who specializes in addiction and family's of addicts as well as interventions. I'm looking to him for some guidance on where to start. I'm meeting with an attny to find out what my rights are. My AH has already told me he won't leave the house so I need to know what to do to protect my kiddos. This has been a painful 15 year journey...i can feel my physical body begin to break down....i can see the fear in his eyes as he feels me pull away from him....i have tried to save him so many times and now it's time to save me and my children. Please pray for our family.
I say kudos to you for leaving him in the garage.... They have no clue what so ever how stupid they act. You're in the right direction now just keep moving forward. stay strong and take care of urself and the babies!
I have so much on common with you. I'm so sorry for you but nice to not feel as alone. My AH wouldn't leave initially either but finally did. Sucks. It hasn't gotten easier for me yet, but having a 4 and 7 year old definitely keeps me moving in what I think is the best direction, but certainly the hardest. ♡♡♡
Thank you all for the support and words of encouragement. Delaney I read your original post and yes it does seem we are leading parallel lives and for that I am sorry. It is painful to go through this but yes it is comforting to know you're not the only one dealing with this problem. I waited until 32 to get married and 36 to have children thinking I would be ready for whatever life would eventually throw at me. As you know, one can never be ready for a life this full of silent torture. Part of me thinks "well, you brought kids into this situation and it's your duty to see it through until they are out of the house". However the other part of me doesn't think she can survive the next 13 years under the daily stress of it all. I'm meeting with a new therapist who specializes in addiction and intervention, hoping he will provide me with some sound advice and good direction. Also meeting with an attorney to get some preliminary questions answered so I know what my rights are as they pertain to the kids and keeping the kids in the family home. It's weird, even for us the non-addicts, it's still just one day at a time.....
You sound very level headed and confident! It’s not easy to make the decision to leave, but the kids should always come first. It is completely worth it. My divorce was final earlier this year. Life is quite peaceful now. Sending you strength.
I will pray for you and your children. I can feel the love of God flowing through you in your words. I hate alcohol and the way our society glamorizes drinking. I have nothing but sympathy foe you. Despite all this I pray you have a peaceful Christmas and a bright New Year.
My husband just pulled a similar stunt at dinner with my sister and her husband. Ugh.
