So to be nice I told my AH twice while sober of my plans for Easter Sunday (same plans every year). I went to church with our grown children and grand kids, visited his elderly mom, then went to our daughters for a cookout and egg hunt.
I didn't expect church for him, he showed up at his moms as we were leaving (and we stayed at least an hour). After hanging out with the kids, I went home to find him starting up the lawn mower. He drove it around the house and parked it back in the garage and went back inside... I asked why he didn't come over to visit with the kids and of course his response was "I didn't think you wanted me there". Why should it matter what I want, that's never mattered in the past 30+ years. I'm so tired of being the one that holds our family together, if he sees his grand kids its because I bring them to the house. I tell him its over, i'm done with this life. His response he's gonna drink himself to death... That used to work, sorry it doesn't work anymore. God help! Well I quess I should be thankful that I had a wonderful and pleasant day with the loves of my life!
Good for you! It wasn't a failed holiday if you enjoyed it with the people you love! AH is a grown man. You are not responsible for him. It is amazing how they think that they can blame everyone else for their bad behavior and somehow it is our job to take care of them even though they act like jerks.
Hugs.
Cheers to you DSTRICK for enjoying your day and not letting him bring you down. Why do these jerks have to take us with them on the way down?
Here's one of the phrases doctors or stupid people say about dealing with a drunk spouse that makes me roll my eyes back into my head:
Alcoholism is a DISEASE. Would you leave your husband if he had CANCER? What a delightful thing to say to someone who is being a saint by not killing our drunks, but we must be strong and HOLD DOWN THE FORT. Fuck that, he blew it down, let him build his own fort over there and leave me alone in mine.
exactly right his lost not mine! And endlessgrief, I agree with you.... not sure about you other women and your AH but mine, he'll go to the doctor for anything except his alcohol disease! Took 7 weeks off last year for hand surgery that was a temp fix but will not talk about rehab to save his marriage. Go figure!
Hugs.
