Wives of Alcoholics Community Group
A forum of healing and help for wives of alcoholics.
My husband is a functioning alcoholic. We are eight years together and we have a six years old son. When he is sober he is a lovely man. But he is not sober very often. He will go work in the morning and I know he is well and sober. He will call me, several times to check if I am ok and is the only time we can have a prober conversation. On his way home he will drink, and he always tries to hide it.
About a a month ago, I left from London with my son to visit my family in another country. He promised he will try to control his drinking. First night, everything was ok. But then, from Friday night until Monday morning he was lost... he was answering his phone but he was wasted. He admitted that he had two bottles of whiskey the first night and then Saturday morning he had more.. he tried to fix his hang over with more drinking he said! And then Sunday he was really sick. Of course the first night he was drunk he said really nasty things to me, that he couldn't remember the next day. Not the first time that happened. Sometimes he gets angry and fights with me and the next morning he doesn't remember why he is sleeping in the bed downstairs.
About a week ago, I was waiting for him to finish his work at his mums house. He said he was gonna finish soon but the time was passing and when I called he was at the pub with his colleagues drinking a few pints. I told him off. At the end I told him to sleep at his mums house. He took 160 pounds cash and he spend them on drinks and I suspect prostitutes, even though I don't have a proof. But he did it before. He was wasted on Saturday morning.
Sometimes he gets so drunk he is pissing his own bed. When he has whiskey he is aggressive. He thinks that he is not an alcoholic, "I have an alcohol problem but I am not an alcoholic" he told me. At the moment he stays at his mums, getting drunk with his brother.
Me and his mum we will go to AA meetings for families in hope that we can get some help. I am really sad.. so many more I want to say but I feel I will never finish.
I wish I could heal him from this problem. I don't know how...
I went yesterday to my first Al-anon meeting. During the meeting I just thought that this is a waste of time. After the meeting I spoke with another member and he told me he goes through the same things from his wife. I just felt I am not alone. But I could see the sadness in his face.. am I gonna end up like that? Am I already like that ?
Is been two days that my AH is not drinking. Before, that would give me hope, now I am just afraid he will go crazy on the booze as soon as he gets the chance. He is sleeping in the couch downstairs.
I will start the journal. That is
a great idea and I think it will help me.
I hate him.
