My husband comes from a family who enjoys their drinking. All successful (to various degrees) and very social. My husband has definitely has the drinking trait (probably both genetically & environmentally) but I feel that it has evolved way beyond "having a good time". I'm unsure on how to seek help for him. Because he grew up with alcohol as a symbol of celebration, I really don't think he thinks it's possible for it to have become a problem. Nor do I think his family would.
Anyone else dealing with a similar situation?
My husband came from a family of festive drinkers as well
Unfortunately for him he carried him moms traits and he is a
Full blown Ac and his illness is also following his mom's traits
Cirrhosis and enfazima.
It did not happen over night but he is at a point of no return even
If he did he will be so sick he will not be able to enjoy life
I wish you the Very Best and pray he she how alcohol will not can
Distroy you life and family
Many prayers and hugs for you
Hi HealthyLove,
Most members of my husbands family are festive drinkers too. As a matter of fact my husband and I just attended his cousin's funeral this past Sunday. His cousin died of Alcoholic Liver Cirrhosis. My husband and his cousin are the same age only 2 months apart. This was the 6th person in his family that died of Cirrhosis ~ Should be a wake up call for him I thought...And in a way it is because my husband has decided that he will go to his doctor and get blood work done to check his liver ~ However ~ He still has not made an appointment to do so and I'm sure that if he finally does do it and the results are OK that it will just fuel him with more ammunition to use against me,his mom and other family members that are concerned about his heavy drinking ~ He will be like OK I got my liver checked and I'm fine so I will continue to drink all I want ~ On the other hand if the blood results show a problem I do believe he will actually take great measures to quit his drinking and start his healing, because he watched his cousin die this horrible death and it scared the heck out of him!!
This is probably more common than not. It is horrible because they can function with the alcohol and associate it as not a big deal because of celebrations. BUT it is a problem. But if everyone else around them is doing it, it is harder to point out how dangerous and unhealthy the habit is. My husbands friends all drink socially. They cannot manage to hang out without drinking. Sad really. So we stopped hanging out with those friends. We only have a few where we can hang out and not drink all the Time.
