I quit smoking finally (day 1) My doctor told me I have emphysema and that my last chest xray showed something so I had to go back and have more views taken. I am waiting for results, very stressful to quit smoking when you are going through a very stressful time I just know I don't have a choice. I watched my dad suffer and die from emphysema even that didn't make me quit but I knew that if I ever heard that diagnosis about me I would quit right away I am taking chantix I don't understand why you have to keep taking it I thought it was supposed to block nocotine from getting to your brain but if your not smoking you shouldn,t have to worry about nicotine going to your brain. Does anyone understand how this drug works. I'm not giving it up yet. I am only 43 and I don't want to die!

I have 47 days under my belt- and like you I watched my mom die of a chronic lung disease. its awful to watch loved ones die a slow horrible death. not wanting to do that to my hubby and kids are helping mme achieve my goal
