My adult daughter said something to me today that struck me as odd and it kind of hurt. She said..."it seems like you just don't care anymore." I thought to myself, care anymore? I care more now than I ever did about things. I have more compassion, understanding, and patience. Why would she say that? Then I began to think about it. I guess I am different since the day Ira passed a year and a few months ago. Starting when Ira first became sick, life during those six years was usually in turmoil, add tons of stress with tension that was even higher. Fear of the future filled the back of my mind. I pretended as if things were getting better but they were actually getting worse. She didn't see how terrified I really was. Money was tight and his health was bad yet she thought I was super mom. I tried to keep a positive outlook through out all of that, which I do believe that I did, but inside...the stress point was boiling over but I just didn't allow people to see that. Now since he's gone, I'm not afraid of what might happen. It already did…he died. And guess what? Even though my heart broke...I'm still here… I survived… I actually lived. There was a time when I didn't think I could live without him....alone, but reality proved me wrong. Now, things don't bother me like they did. I take just about everything in stride and live by the words....it is what it is. Because actually that's the truth, it is what it is. Sometimes we can't change things and just have to live with them, beside them or in spite of them. So many little things have come up in the past month that would have bothered me before and caused me to think...why me? Why me? The dryer broke, the fridge broke, car broke, toilet broke, I still have leaks throughout the house, the roof needs fixed, and now they're going to rip my yard up for sewer system through all of my beautiful flowers and landscaping...but, it is what it is. Things will get fixed one by one and the yard will be put back together piece by piece. I've survived much worse. It's only things. One step at a time, one project at a time, one crisis at a time. But in between all of those little mishaps, I find a lot of joy...joy in the small things as well as the large. I appreciate life more and I appreciate people more. I have an inner peace that I just can't describe. Sure, sometimes I feel lonely and vulnerable and weak but that too passes. I just look at it as a part of surviving and thriving. Each day is a learning experience and each day I am grateful for what I've had, have and will have.
So...to recap? It seems like I just don't care anymore? No my child....I care more than you'll ever know. Someday when your my age with children, love and heartbreak of your own....maybe just maybe then, you might understand just how much your mama really did care. Just some thoughts on a cool late summer evening...
Peace to all

Take care.
Peace, Tim
There is a kind of freedom you wind up with. I don't know if it's crazy, but I listen to people piss and moan about trvial stuff and I just think, "My world died in my arms -- top that!" They can't. Ever. I guess some shrink would have a field day with that last statement. Oh well... lol...

Cliffskat, your reply also resounds with me. Since Amy's death 2 months ago, there has been a lot of upheaval at work. Possible layoffs, changes in management, etc. I told a friend about these things and then I reflected... I have already had the worst thing happen in my life two months ago. Nothing that happens at work can even come remotely close to that so I am not going to worry about that anymore. Choose what is important and focus on those things.
Thanks for the posts and the replies.
Blessing, Peace, Hope and hugs for today (I think that we all need those things.... they are some of the important things)...Mark
Peace and big ((hugs))

When my son said "I'm just not there yet Mom".............I thought, where? You are not where yet? Are we going somewhere? I am simply living...choosing life. Because let me tell you, the tears still flow daily at random, the love for David will always be there, and so will the tears for all that he will not share with us. I have chosen to keep living, and yes I believe it is always a choice. I too am a strong woman, but that strength was tested with David's passing. Our children, have their own grief to work through, and sadly, they too have to choose to treasure the moments and memories they shared with their father or wallow in sadness and even anger that their parent is gone from them. We have all asked WHY, but as Darcie said, It is what it is...................no question answered will change that. We can choose LIFE and live it to the fullest for the time we are given, because one thing that each of us now knows for certain is..........we are guaranteed nothing. This inner peace God has granted me is such a blessing. I find myself hugging more, smiling more, and telling people how much I love them..........life is fleeting...........choose to live it. I want JOY in my life every single day, and I find it in most unexpected places, but I do find it every day!
Thanks Darcie, for sharing. I see your posts to others who are struggling, and I find you to be a VERY caring person, giving of her time always to help others in their grief. If you have changed, I feel certain it is only for the better!!

The problem is trying to find some enthusiasm for what remains and get some enjoyment out of smaller things anyways.
Not going to react like a small problem is the end of the World for sure.
