I joined a website few weeks ago. I'm sure how many of you have heard of one called widoworwidowers.com. you can put you are looking for. I have been wanting to met new people. I'm thinkin this site isn't very good. I began chatting with this one guy that said his name was Robert fitzgerald. and seemed everything was going good until I realized he was trying to scam me. He said he lived in CT and had to go sell his shipment in Kenya. Supposedly he would have been 9 hrs ahead of my time in time difference. We first talked on the site then we started chatting offline on something else because that website chat messenger sucks and the private messages there are moderated.
We started chatting on another chatting on hangouts. I thought the guy seemed real. The guys pics was nice but they were professional. He talked with an French accent. He even sent me some nice greetings. I was feeling conntected because we were having some very common interest. It wasn't until this past Friday he said someone had tried taking money from his bank account and his bank blocked him. He said he didn't have money to get this shipment for work and of course he asked me for $1200.
For the first time since I started talking to him ,was that day was the first time I felt omg he is tryin to scam me. I took the pics he sent me and uploaded them to a website called tinyeye.com and found out that the pics he sent me belonged to someone else named alex. Alex speaks Russian.
I confront this guy named Robert about it and he said his name was alex and he was a very successful person and wanted to protect himself and not get hurt or fall for the wrong person. I said if you are so successful then why did you try to scam me ,he said because someone tried to scam him. I said but if you are who you say you are then you should have people that are able to send you the money.
I know I know guys -scams like this. Ive been thru other bill collectors before my husband died ,tried to scam us. but we never let them.
I have already had 2 other guys from this same site give me their email address and then when I look them up on facebook -their profile on that website doesn't match their facebook.

I read the fbi website about the online dating scams. if someone says they are American and have to go work overseas,if their pic is professional and they don't have any other pics of themselves. These days everyone has some kinda smart phone or video cam or table/laptop that has a camera on it. FBI says that if someone you talk with online never wants to video chat with you and they only have pics and they try to confess their feelings for you too soon only after a few online chats and if they try to send you something or ask for money etc that's a big give away to get away.

I confronted another guy right up front and he said don't you think that's too soon to be asking to video chat or a video from someone you don't know I said well , if the last guy I chatted with would have had one I could have compared his pics to his video.

Patty, thanks for the warning. Sorry it was a negative experience but at least it wasn't worse.

When I do not know the person, I say I am single,,as many people view us as vulnerable and desperate. When I am comfortable with them then I will say I am a widow..just a protection barrier for myself.

I'm going to try to stay away from online dating sites. I am limited to my selection of men, I'm a biker, I ride and I plan on going out to all events and parties with my friends. Hopefully I will meet someone at least for comapionship.

To check weather a photo is real or not you can drag it from their profile into a Google photo search engine and it will come up with matches to that picture. If you do this right in the beginning you will at least know if the person you are talking to has a ligit photo. Let's face it being on line is like opening your front door to a stranger, look through the peep hole and ask for ID.

laney that's what I did. I put the pic he gave me into a google search and then confronted him with it.

Watch out, there are a lot of on-line scammers based in Africa: i live in Europe, so the scam here is they hack your e-mail, claiming to be one of your other ex-pat friends who's in trouble. Usually from Nigeria or Kenya (English is one of their official languages.)
