I co-organize the widow/widower meet up in my city. I joined a year ago and found so much support and friendships there. I recently was approached to co-organize it and agreed because it helped me so much transition back into the real world with people who understood the grief journey. Good luck. Gerry

What a great idea. It's one thing to write to each other and another to actually meet folks in person. Please come back and tell us how it went.

Good morning. Just wanted to give an update, I went to the dinner and had a nice time, everyone was older then me but we're wonderful. I will definitely go again.

Congrats Garry. What I am learning is that a part of the healing of my broken heart is requiring me to push outside my comfort zone. Remember, lots and lots of baby steps -- we've got to learn how to crawl before we can walk again. You're going to be okay, my friend, just give it time and lots and lots of it. ~~ Scottie

Garry - I was really glad to see that you went and enjoyed yourself... I started a widows/widowers meet up in my community, with the intention of finding folks about my age (52) as I could not attend the few groups here since I worked full time.
Now I have 60+ members from ages 27 to 80+ - the journey bonds us. Some are 'newbies' (widowed less than a year) others are veterans (11 yrs+) Gerald222 is my new co-organizer.
I've seen some members really 'blossom' and come out of their shells as they discover new friends and rediscover a life outside. It's wonderful, and such a gift for me to witness.
Keep going - you may find more younger members joining - I was surprised by how many we were getting, all ages and stages.

Garry, so glad it went well. The meet up group I go to is for "widows and widowers under 60". Pretty much we're all still working, and many are still raising kids. I also go to another group that meets at a hospital, where most of the group is older and retired. All nice people.

The group I attend is also all ages, mostly 40-65,,,we have a lot obviously in common..It feels so right when I spend time with themthey all get itI am so glad you went Garry. For all of you who haven't attended these meetings in your community I suggest you do. If there is none offered, it would be a great distraction to start one up.

Unfort I was gonna meet up with few other widows that live in area where I'm visiting while on vacation and ummm I'm not sure what their issue was and I was gonna travel to them. But I guess that wasn't good enough. I had atleast 3 women that I guess didn't want to meet up. They are from a facebook group I'm a member of. So the next time I see one of them gripe and complain cause they are bored or lonely and don't have fun or get to talk to anyone I will remind them of this.

I told them I was gonna be in Florida all week.
